ncient was formed by Aphazel in 1992. After Grimm joined, they did a demo called Eerily Howling Winds. After Det Glemte Riket 7'' this line-up did Ancient's classic releases, the debut full-length Svartalvheim in 1994 and in 1995 the minialbum Trolltaar, which was the last release with Grimm, as he left the band in August 1995.

phazel had been in contact via mail to an American black metal musician Lord Kaiaphas, who had at that time such bands as Thokk and Grand Belial's Key. Aphazel then moved to USA and got a new line-up for Ancient with Kaiaphas, Kimberly Goss and Kjetil. The result with this line-up was The Cainian Chronicle. For the next release, Mad Grandiose Bloodfiends, the line-up changed again, now having Jesus Christ!, who played on The Cainian Chronicle tour, as an official member, and a new female vocalist Erichte.

n 1998 happened an even bigger change for Ancient, Aphazel moved to Italy and formed a whole new line-up there, only Jesus Christ! of the previous members stayed, even he still lives in USA. Now since Kaiaphas left the band, Aphazel took over the vocals. After that, Ancient has done three full-lengths and one mini-CD, The Halls Of Eternity as the first of these, introducing the new members Krigse and Deadly Kristin. Soon also Dhilorz joined on bass and after Krigse left, GroM joined as a new drummer. With that line-up Ancient did their 5th full-lenght Proxima Centauri in 2001. After Deadly Kristin left the band, as she moved to Sweden, the line-up has remained the same. As the latest chapter of the path of Ancient, the four recorded the newest full-length, Night Visit.
