Detective Conan Storyline

Detective Conan is created by Gosho Aoyama-sensei. The first D.C. manga was published in Japan in 1996, and the anime series quickly followed.

How it all began
Kudo Shinichi is a well-known, seventeen-year-old high school detective, who has the amazing gift of reason and deducting. However, one day, after a "date" in the amusement park with his childhood friend Mouri Ran (they're not boy-/girlfriend yet), he decides to follow two suspicious-looking men dressed in black. Well, it turns out that they were blackmailing another man. Shinichi, engrossed in their conversation, didn't notice a third man coming up behind him. The third man knocked Shinichi out by hitting in on the back of the head with a gun, and he and his partner forced him to take an experimental drug that is still being researched & developed by "the Organization", thinking that it would kill him. They fled after feeding him the drug. However, instead of killing Shinichi, this drug shrunk him back into a seven-year-old child!

Birth of Conan
If the "men in black" knew that Kudo Shinichi was still alive, they would try to kill him. Therefore, the child Shinichi became "Edogawa Conan" (name taken from two of his favorite mystery novel authors: Edogawa Ranpo and Arthur Conan Doyle), and with the help of his good friend Dr. Agasa (Agasa-hakase), he goes to live with Mouri Ran and her father, who claims to be a detective but in reality just drinks a lot and sleeps. Because Mouri-san's detective skills are so awful, Conan couldn't help himself and began aiding Mouri in his cases. Agasa-hakase, an inventor, gave Conan several gadgets to help. And to this day, Conan lives with Ran, trying to find the identity of the two "men in black" and find the drug so Agasa-hakase can make an antidote.

The Plot Thickens
Conan's story only gets more complicated as two new characters step on the scene: Haibara Ai and Jodie Saintemillion. Haibara is a former member of the Black Organization, and Jodie Saintemillion is Ran's English teacher who appears to know Conan's identity! (Read more about these characters in the CHARACTER page.)
Also, another new character comes along, and his name is Shuichi Akai. Because I still am not very informed on the latest DC developments, I am not very sure of his identity. Sorry...

Currently, there are 43 volumes of Conan manga in Japan, and there is one file printed every Sunday in the Japanese magazine, Shonen Sunday. There are 7 Conan movies and over 200 anime episodes!

Keep up with the latest developments in the News section!
