Detached Retina exist to reach people where they are, whether christian or non-christian, by way of hard rock music for the glory of God. Detached Retina began in late 2000 with just three guys rocking in a basement. Soon after, the band became a four piece early 2001 and made some great advances. At the core was Matt Merritt and his vision to reach people for God. "I have always thought that one of the best ways to minister to people was by the means of music. It just seems natural because music carries an emotion with it that is able to move a person in a way that nothing else can, other than God." This passion is what has brought the band through many hard times.
Currently the band is a two piece that includes original member Matt Merritt and new comer Garrett Ruhmann. Garrett is an extremely talented drummer from the Indianapolis area. His drumming has been called amazing, astonishing, and well practiced to say the least. Along side the rich sound of Matt on the guitar and vocals, this positively high energy act is a site to be seen. When ask, Garrett had this to say about being a two piece. "Surprisingly, this set up works extremely well. You wouldn't think having this set up would sound the way it does. It truely has to be of God that it sounds that excellent." As the band presses on, they hope to be "rocking people toward the truth." |
