Dear Parents,
We have many interresting and exciting things planned for this year and we are looking forward to fun projects and learning everyday.   We will be communicating with you daily about your child's day and upcoming events through the
Take-Home Folder.  In the folder you will find a behavior calendar, reading log, and any notes that we need to send home to you.
The behavior calendar will either have a sticker symbolizing a successful day or a number showing you which rule has been broken.  We have five simple rules which we have written at the top of the calendar for you.
Each day must be signed by you and the folder returned the next morning. Your child is responsible for returning this folder every day.  Please follow through at home for any unacceptable behaviors that occur during the school day--this will help your child be more successful at school and make our days more pleasant.  We appreciate your help!  Behavior is one of the most important elements of a school day.  If behavior is a problem then learning is not possible.
Your child will find a small take home reader book in this folder each night.  Their homework is to read with you every night.  We need you to record the name of the book and sign the reading log with each new book your child reads.  When your child reads 100 books they will receive a prize from Mrs. Varney and she will announce their name over the intercom the next morning congradulating them.  Kindergarteners will need to be reading on a level 3 or higher by the end of the school year.  Your child is also expected to practice recognizing their "popcorn words" each night using the flash cards provided to you at the beginning of the year.  We also need you to return the flash cards each day so we can also use them to practice at school inorder to make sure they are prepared for the test each week.  A list of these words is provided for you on the website under "popcorn words".
If you need to communicate with us please place all notes in their folder.  It will be checked every morning.   Please make sure we know which mode of transporation your child is taking to go home.  For your child's safety, a
written notice is necessary for any changes in transportation.  This is a school wide policy.   Please date and sign all notes sent to us to eleminate any confusion.  If your child is absent from school please send a dated letter explaining the reason they were absent.   Any student who is absent 21 day will be retained.  This is a school policy.  Four tardies or early dimissals will equal one absence.
All lunch money needs to be sent in an envelope with the student's name, teacher's name, and Lunch number.  Please do not send money without an envelope because we will have no way of proving that it belongs to your child if it is lost.  If you wish to find out how much money is in your child's lunchroom account you will need to call 356-2374.  Breakfast is free and lunch cost $1.65.
We are so happy to have your child in our class.  We hope that this will be a wonderful experience for them!  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at school after the students have dismissed for the day.  Thank you!
