After seeing todays (9/05) show, I see any irrational thoughts I may have had have been just that, irrational. Its clear to me that Steve is up to something.
Dont get me wrong, there were things that greatly disturbed me about Steve today, but Im convinced there will be no real triangle with Billie.
First clue, Steve walked into the bar (sounds like the beginning of a bad joke) and wasnt looking for anyone, so his statement to Billie I was hoping to run into you, was just a line.
Second clue, Steve didnt show a lot of real flirting, he was being inquisitive and charming. Just the way a person is when they want to get information from someone without letting on that they want information. The best way to do this is to play dumb. Steve knew who Chelsea was, and that she wasnt a nice girl. So when he commented that Chelsea seemed like a nice girl, he was lying. Chelsea is Stephanies competition for Max (her uncleyikes) and where Steve doesnt know that its Max Stephanie is crushing over (again, Yikes), you would think Stephanie wouldnt be Chelseas best friend, and wouldn't have nice things to say about her. And I know Kayla has mentioned Chelsea to Steve. So, theres that obvious deception hes put out.
Now, what is Steve trying to get out of Billie? What I found interesting was that he seemed certain he recognized her. I think he did, but Steve being Steve isnt going to let on to that. Like I said before, playing dumb is the best way to get information. Where did he know Billie from? We dont know for sure, but Im guessing she had something to do with what happened to him after his supposed death and his awakening in Cincinnati. And Im guessing Steve knows that. Maybe thats what hes trying to get out of Billie, but I think theres more as well. I think once Steve caught on that John suspected Kate as being involved in Eves murder he thought of another reason to butter Billie up. Hes doing some investigating. Whether its in cooperation with John or independent, I cant tell.
Okay, so, the things that bothered me about Steve today. Really really really annoyed that he wasnt saying nice things about Kayla. First of all, Kayla did like sports. (Showing my geeky side here) At the beginning of the relationship Chris got Kayla tickets to a football game. Kayla was excited about it. I seriously doubt it was because Christ got them for her, I think it was because she liked football. So, case and point, Kayla likes sports, or at least she did 20 years ago. And if shes trying to vie for Steves affection shed sit through a ballgame with him, like the game or not, you like the company. I dont know if that was another line of Steves or if its just that I know more about the characters then the writer. (Thats kind of sad.)
Steve was saying some really harsh things about Kayla. Unless Kayla was in on it, and I dont think she was, it was just mean. I understand that it would be annoying to hear Kayla ask a million times if he remembers anything (its annoying to me), but you dont bad mouth your wife in front of virtual strangers.
Also, he showed little interest in Stephanie when she was brought up. Hes had some bonding time with her and he must feel some sort of feelings for her. Again, if Steve is trying to hide something he wouldnt show that, so that didnt bother me as much as the trash talk about Kayla.
By the end of the episode I was mad enough at Steve that I was like, Fine, you deserve the man stealing hussy if thats how you really feel. But Im holding on to the hope that its not how he really feels.
So, the point is, I dont see any sort of romantic feelings from Steve on this so called triangle. I think Steve is up to something. And I hope he is.Ive missed my old Steve.
