Anita Katherine Blake is a 25 year old professional vampire executioner, necromancer and self-acclaimed monster.
( Hey, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.) Why not? Anita knows she is human, but she is doubting her humanity more everyday.
When Anita was a child, she saw her first soul, and found out about her necromancy skills by raising her dead dog
(she was 13).
Anita's mother dies in a car accident when she was eight, when she was ten her father remarried a woman named Judith. Judith was freaked out about the raised dog, so Anita's father took her to see her maternal grandmother. Grandmother Flores was a vaudun preistess and taught Anita how to control her power. She suggested Anita be raised Catholic, so as to not misuse her power. However, Anita is now Episcopoilian, because the Pope excumunicated all animator that did not stop raising the dead. Anita didn't stop.
Anita graduated with a B.S. in Preternatural Biology. She did field work studying dragon, water monsters and the like, until Bert Vaughn came along. Bert was the owner of Animators, Inc. which specialized in raising the dead to right and clarify wills, settle legal disputes and come to terms with deceased relatives and friends.
In addition to being a necromancer/animator, Anita is also a vampire executioner. In fact, she has so many kills, the vampires (and others) call her " The Executiner."
Anita has learned that she has new powers, such as raising vampires from their coffins in daylight hours. By doing this, Anita has formed a bond with these raised vampires, which rivals their link with their master, Jean Claude.
Anita has a most complicated love life! She met Richard and it was like love at first sight. She later finds out that Richard ie a werewolf, but that doesn't change the relationship until later on. Jean Claude is so jealous of this relationship that he tells Anita she must give him a few monthes to try a wooo her, or he will kill Richard. Anita gives him the chance. So, Anita is involved with two men, on top of having no time for herself, she has to deal with arcaine werewolf affairs and vampire affairs.
Later in the series, Anita, Jean Claude and Richard bond each other together, by making a triumvirate.
Anita takes on vampire marks and Richard does also. One of the reasons for this is so Richard will have extra power to defeat Marcus and become the Ulfric of the werewolf pack.
When this happens, and he shifts shape, he does it on top of Anita and she toally freaks out! She runs to the bed of Jean Claude, and they have sex. She loses Richard's love and trust by doing this. She has a marvolous time as Jean Claude's girlfriend. The old Anita saying " I don't date vampires, I kill them," is blown away.
In the book "Blue Moon", Anita finally has sex with Richard and it is wonderful for her until she finds out that is is strengthening their (Anita and Richard) bond to Jean Claude and is just plain pissed! She decides to take a vacation from the boys.
Anita is an avid collector of stuffed penguins and as I suspect definately, coffee mugs! Her favorite penguin is Sigmund, who finds his way to her bed on some nights. She has so many coffee mugs to choose from, it is just not easy to pick one.
