| We've been around the World We set off with the object of sailing right round In a yacht we'd spent many hard years making sound. We'd escaped from the rat race, no longer it's slave As we surfed through the heads on the crest of a wave. Over the top, and off into the blue Gradually receding, this culture we knew. The curve that we climbed as raw cruisers was steep The ocean was vast, unforgiving and deep. Her moods and her energy awesome and strange Ensured that our total respect was soon gained. It was from our own race that we feared for our lives Not from nature, our mother, eternal and wise. Simple things were important, a brief shower of rain Harvesting fruit, catching fish to sustain Our lifestyle quite basic, our pace pretty slow Sunrises and sunsets a free natural show. We'd joined a race not restricted by land Citizens of the earth, a mixed ethnic band. Round a fire, telling jokes, singing songs having fun We will cherish deep friendships so briefly begun. In countries we touched we were welcomed with pride There was nothing our hosts seemed anxious to hide. We saw hardship and poverty, squalor for miles Where souls scratch a living with rhythm and smiles. On islands we loitered, exploring with glee The mysterious world that lies under the sea. We witnessed displays of pure beauty and grace By the creatures that thrive in this magical place. We sailed and we cycled, examined and probed Moved on till we'd been to the ends of the globe Searching for trade winds to carry us west The boat was our haven, a safe comfy nest. Destiny's taken this trip in her stride Like a pro she's responded, we view her with pride. There'll be tears when we part from this vessel we love Such a part of our lives, like a hand from a glove. Soon the heads are in sight and the circle's complete There'll be joy and emotion for friends we will greet. And now our adventure has come to a close What we'll do as an encore, God only knows! |
