| The strong Southerly winds were causing zero underwater visibility and keeping the water cold, so we decided to check out Airlie Beach. There's a brand new marina at Abel Point, but the popular free place for grotties is still in front of the WSC [Whitsunday Sailing Club] where the beer is cheap and the atmosphere very friendly. We found quite a few old mates there including Sandy and Julian Way on "Catchus" our fellow Aussie drinking team members from Muscat Cove. | |||||||||||
| Airlie is the jumping off spot for the Whitsundays so it's full of backpackers. There are heaps of cheap sailing/diving packages, and they seem to have a ball. Development is in full swing inflating prices and spoiling the villiagey ambiance. As soon as the weather improved, we set off determined to do some snorkelling, and discovered some great spots at the entrance to Butterfly Bay Hook Island [above] Blue Pearl Hayman [left] & Woodpile, | |||||||||||
