SYDNEY - CROSSING THE FINISHING LINE
Planned the last leg perfectly - beautiful sunny day, 15 knots from the NE, arrival at the Sydney Heads 2.30pm! Left Barrenjoey beam reaching at 7kts and had to roll up the headsail to slow down!!
First Glimpse of the city and the top of the harbour bridge also heralded the arrival of our escort, David Bell at the helm of his Bavaria 44 "Four Bells", an impressive sight. Jude was determined to be first across the finish line so took station in the bow, while "hoards" of spectators cheered and waved from the top of North Head.
Nigel and Imogen Holman were on the line in their rubber duckie to wave the checkered flag, but in this case it was Cuckoos Nests Battle flag. We certainly felt like Hobart winners!!
Back on the jetty at Manly Boatshed Hugh Treharne was ready to catch our mooring  lines, and cousins Shirley and John were popping champagne. Peter Versi arrived with Gus [who is as cuddley and clever as ever] and some new jokes!  Liam and Annie Nicholls rafted up in "Gone with the wind" and offered a mooring very near our old spot between Fairlight and Forty Baskets. The rest of the evening evaporated in a drunken blurr, with well wishers coming and going and all wanting to know what we'll do next!!
Well we'll be living on Destiny until we've found her new owners. She's a fantastic Blue Water Cruiser and we don't think we'll be going around again!!      As for us???????
To mark the ocassion Jude has composed a poem which we'll share with you on our next web page.......................
