| The entry port of Suva is also the capital, but not a tourist centre. It's a buzzing vibrant city with fairly modern buildings, recently spruced up to host the Pacific Games. Checking in is always a pain - millions of forms with CARBON PAPER [remember that!] Rob from Lone Eagle joined us for the ritual, overseen by the immigration official. Despite the fooling around, he let us in! |

| The market in Suva is a mass of stalls selling veggies, fruit and the famous kava root which the locals make into an awful alcoholic drink that looks like dishwater. It is traditional to present the chief of a village you want to visit with a bunch, costing about $10. Most of the traders are Indian, and they won't let you leave unless you buy something, so Duck decided to check out the merchandise. | |||||||||||||||
| Not everyone was as sales and service orientated as the indian stall-holders! Or maybe they had been sampling too much kava! We anchored off the Royal Suva Yacht Club which has great facilities for yachties, and soon made ourselves at home. Duck, wangled his way onto this Coulter 30, Rum City Express for the Sunday Race- Here they are crossing the finish line - 1st of course! |
