GOVE
Gove is RED. After a few days you're red, the boats red, everything's red!
Luckily, we like red.
Fontana had left TI the day before us, and on arrival Eve's greeting had been " they have great showers, laundry and WASHING LINES" Music to a boat-wife's ears. So while Duck assembled the much modified trusty rustys, I did two loads of washing and hung it out to dry!
We cycled into town 10K down a tar road following the bauxite conveyor belt, we needed to stretch our legs. Very flat scrubby landscape, hot dusty and uninteresting. Inspected the tip [Mitre 11] the supermarket, the grog shop, bait and tackle shop, and checked out the golf course.
Duck bought a couple of lures crimps and traces to replace the ones he'd bought in TI which had disappeared somewhere near Booby Island! BIG teeth, thank god they got away.
On the cycle back agreed not to do this again, hitching lifts you get to meet the locals!
Gove Yacht Club is an interesting place. The local aboriginal community hang out there too but are mainly friendly. Apparently there's a lot of islander blood in the local mobs which gives them a non-aggressive hakuna matata type of disposition.
Very tropical surrounds, lots of live-aboards who work at the mine earning good money.
When
Fontana and Miss Conduct left, we were the only visitors, but 34 yachts who are entered for the Over The Top Rally from Gove to Darwin, which starts on 24th June were due to arrive over the next couple of weeks, including many of our mates we'd met back the track.
From Gove Yacht Club
Warwick  Hill the club manager turned out to be a mad golfer, so drove us out for two cucuits of the interesting 9 hole course.

Didn't see the water buffalo famous for killing a golfer who mis-guidedly tried to retrieve his ball from their water hazard a couple of years ago, but saw plenty of steaming evidence, which suggested a  very large arse - hole!

We halved the match - It was time to move on!

But not before a tour of the local settlement which was neat and orderly.
