FAREWELL TO DARWIN

Fantastic send off from Darwin Sailing Club. Lots of yachties, Geoff and Andy, and Normie Rowe dropped in to sing "Rocking all over the World" on our behalf! We bopped till we dropped, didn't have time to get too pissed, just as well as we had a date with Customs at the fuel wharf at 8.00am to fill up with duty free diesel [50c] and booze. Not all went according to plan as their nozzle was too big for our through hull fitting, so a funnel had to be used. This introduced air bubbles into our flexible fuel tanks, and any amount of manipulation didn't solve the

problem, so we had to settle for a bit less than we wanted, 750 litres. Probably just as well as Destiny was sitting very low in the water after the booze was delivered. A case of 1125Lt bottles of Bundy for $165! Duck reckons it will last us till South Africa! He's now in the brewing business having "laid down" 20 litres of ginger beer for mixing Dark and Stormies. Won't be drinkable till Mauritius, but the ginger will help prevent seasickness!

Jude's emotions were running high. She got a big hug from Erryn, the young customs lady when she noticed her eyes brimming with tears. Soon got Bon Jovi playing "It's my life" and danced the tears away. Tony and Phyllis from Iona were there to throw off the lines. We knew 10 other yachts were being cleared the same day, mainly for Indonesia.
Passed Charles Point motor-sailing in light breeze to boost the freezer, make some water with the desalinator Duck installed in Darwin, charge the house and new starting battery banks, and get oil circulating in the motor that had been idle for 6 weeks. Crowded House were playing the "Hey Hey" song on the radio. We'd loved Darwin and it's helpful people, and were sad to leave, but another world awaited, and we were eager to get going again.
