Ashley Kerwin
Ashley Kerwin used to be "little miss perfect" in grade 8, she and Jimmy Brooks had the "perfect" relationship and she was pretty much the most popular girl in school. Her biggest problem at that point was running for Student Body President and dealing with her stepbrother Toby. That changed when she found out from her dad that the reason he left their family is because he is gay, and he has a partner. This shook up Ashley's life a little but not overwhelmingly. By the end of the school year, Ashley's life was looking pretty good, she had considered breaking up with Jimmy but didn't follow through. One day her parents were gone so she decided to have a get together with her girlfriends, Paige Michelchuck, Hazel Aden, and Terri McGreggor. Well, Paige didn't listen to the "only a small group of friends" rule and proceeded to invite other people. Toby invited his friends Sean and JT. As it turns out, Sean brought ecstasy and Ash ended up taking it. She acted really obnoxious, made out with Sean, broke up with Jimmy and said some horrible things to her friends. Everyone ends up abandoning her and she has to start over again. She cuts her hair really short and starts dressing goth. Her and Jimmy end up getting back together, but it doesn't work out. Everyone accepts her again and she starts to spend more time with Craig Manning. By the next school year, she and Craig are a couple but it goes sour when she finds out that he was cheating on her. Ashley becomes depressed and is giving Craig a hard time but she seems to forgive him when he sings her an apology song ("Dust") in a battle of the bands competition they had both entered in. The next year they become friends again and end up getting back together. Ashley's father gets married and Craig ends up making a scene at the wedding because, as Ash finds out after the wedding, he is bipolar and was going through an episode. She sticks by him and they remain a couple. Soon Ashley finds out that her dad got her a summer job in London, and she plans to go. Craig is disappointed about this and tries to get her to stay. When that fails, he ends up buying a ticket of his own and "surprising" her by telling her he's going with her. Ashley gets upset and tells him he can't follow her there and that she needs space from him. After the summer is over Ashley still hasn't returned on the first day of school and we find out through and e-mail to Ellie that she is staying in England and that she found someone else, but she tells Ellie she will tell him when she feels it's the right time. By the end of the year, Ashley returns to see her friends graduate. She tells Jimmy that she talked to the principal, Ms. Hatzilakos, about coming back to Degrassi so that is presumably where we will find her next year!
