Tears Are Not Enough Part I
(Craig, Ashley and Sean are walking outside to be picked up after school)
Craig: So I turn it over and I'm sure I studied the wrong stuff.
Ashley: I know the feeling, but the exam I'm really dreading is science.
Craig: Tell me about it. Science is totally my worst subject.
Albert(Craig's dad): Maybe you need a little help from your old science study partner?
Craig: Dad? What are you, what are you doing here?
Albert: I just thought I?d come by and see my son. Meet his friends.
Ashley: Um, I'm Ashley Kerwin.
Albert: Hi, Ashley. Nice to meet you. (to Sean) And you?
*Sean spits on the ground*
Albert: Can I give you a lift home?
Craig: I live with Joey now.
Albert: To Joey's. We can catch up on the way.
Craig: Um, I, I can't.
Albert: OK, uh, I don?t know, maybe we can have dinner tomorrow night? You can come by work?
Craig: Dad?
Albert: Just think about it, OK? I gotta go.
Ashley: He seemed nice.
Craig: Yeah, well he didn't have a belt in his hand.
Sean: You're not actually gonna go, are you?
(Craig and Ashley after science class)
Ashley: Is everything OK?
Craig: Yeah.
Ashley: It's just the exams?
Craig: Yeah, I wish that was it.
Ashley: Hmm, your dad huh? You two don't have the best relationship?
Craig: Uh, no! Sorry. We talk on the phone once in awhile, but yesterday, that's the first time I've seen him in months.
Ashley: People can change.
Craig: I guess.
*We see Craig and Ashley?s new friendship as they give each other a fist pound before walking into class to take their science exam. We see a hint of something more when Ashley is caught staring at Craig for a good five seconds before he notices. Once he does, he smiles back.*
(Craig and Ashley walking out the school doors after the exam)
Craig: Free from science for two months!
Ashley: And I'm so sure our knowledge of the periodic table will come in handy.
Craig: So, year-end dance, you going?
Ashley: Uh, I'm on the committee remember?
Craig: No, I meant, with anyone?
Ashley: Oh, no.
*Craig is trying to be really casual here, but you can tell he's excited*
Craig: Me neither, should we go together?
*Ashley smiles, which Craig returns*
Ashley: Yeah, we should.
(After meeting for dinner and Craig rejecting his dad's proposal to come home, Craig's dad leaves the restaurant mad and Craig chases after him)
Craig: Dad! Dad, wait up!
Dad: Are you talking to me or are you talking to Joey?
Craig: Oh, that's not fair!
Dad: Life's not fair. And you're right. Joey is better for you. This way you can kiss your potential goodbye; settle for some interesting little goth girl...
*Craig interrupts*
Craig: Don't talk about Ashley like that!
Tears Are Not Enough Part II
(Simpson's class after the death of Craig's dad)
Simpson: Guys, guys! Your attention, please. Some of you have already heard, but I have some unfortunate news. Craig Manning's father died over the weekend in a car accident.
Marco: Uh, Craig's OK right? I mean, he wasn't in the...
Simpson: No, he's fine. But, he won't be back for the rest of term.
Ashley: Um, Mr. Simpson? I thought that we should send flowers, so I'm taking up a collection if that's OK?
Simpson: That'd be great, Ashley. Thank you.
Ashley: Give what you can, guys. I'll make sure Craig gets them today.
*Craig walks into class*
(Ashley and Terri are in the gym preparing for the dance and talking about Craig)
Ashley: I just wish I could do something for him, ya know?
Terri: You can't. Not really. I know first hand, my mom, remember?
Ashley: I know, but, I'm gonna try.
*Ashley walks over to Craig*
Ashley: Hey, Craig. How're you doin??
Craig: Fine. I mean I was going crazy at Joey's, needed to get out, so, I'm here. Wow, the gym looks amazing. I can't wait for the dance.
Ashley: You still want to go?
Craig: Yeah, why wouldn't I?
(Ashley and Ellie are talking by the lockers and Craig comes up)
Craig: Ladies!
Ellie: Hey, Craig.
Craig: Hey, uh you ready for the Hawaiian surf paradise?
Ashley: Um, sure, can't wait.
*Ellie goes to take a picture of Craig and Ashley*
Craig: Hey, save the film for tonight when Ash and I win The Luau Crown.
Ashley: You put us in the contest?
Craig: Yeah, this is our night. Everyone's gonna know it.
Ashley: OK.
Craig: Great, uh, I gotta go clean out my locker. But, I'll see you later.
(Ashley is standing by herself at the dance and Craig walks up to her)
Craig: Goth luau, cool.
Ashley: I thought it'd set us apart.
Craig: And, ya know, keep your dignity intact, until, we start to limbo...of course.
*He grabs her hand and pulls her to the limbo*
*Simpson interrupts to announce the luau king and queen*
Simpson: Guys, the time has come. Votes are in for the luau king and queen. Oh and uh, thanks to Toby Isaacs and Kendra Mason for all their hard work on this. And the winner is, from grade 9, Ashley Kerwin and Craig Manning!
*Craig grins at Ashley, excited and she smiles back because he is so excited about it. They walk up and get the crowns placed on their heads*
(Craig thinks he sees his dad and now his grief catches up to him. He is upset and walks out of the gym. Ashley finds him)
Ashley: Where have you been? They're waiting for our dance. Craig, are you OK?
Craig: I'm fine. I'm just really tired.
Ashley: I knew coming here was a mistake.
Craig: What?
Ashley: It's too soon. You should be home.
Craig: Could you like, revel in this any more? Miss, miss goth, miss doom and gloom!
Ashley: That's not fair. I'm just concerned about you.
Craig: Well, I'm sick of you, and everyone just being concerned!
Ashley: Craig!
*Now he goes crazy and starts destroying all the decorations. Ashley moves to go after him but Mr. Raditch stops her*
Raditch: Let him cool off.
(Ashley is about to leave the dance, but Craig comes around the corner)
Craig: Going somewhere?
Ashley: Are you?
Craig: Soon. I want to go home, I think we owe everyone a dance.
*He grabs her hand and they walk onto the dance floor*
Craig: You can ask.
Ashley: Ask what?
Craig: How I'm doing. I won't go psycho.
Ashley: How are you doing, Craig?
Craig: Better.
*She hugs him and they dance like that the rest of the song*
