The Young and The Spoiled
Ok so this is a little bit old, but one of my favorite episodes as far as fashion goes from Y&R was last years Walnut Grove Academy Prom. Reading through the scrapbook on cbs.com made me decide the Prom was just something I needed to do to introduce myself as the Fashion Police. Ok, I know my prom was a few years ago but no girls I went to school with paid $1,800 for a dress. I absolutely understand that this is a soap and we all know they aren't realistic but the price range on the dresses was a little dramatic, from $1,800 to $250. Maybe some people just weren't as unique as some others; I'm not real sure. And now enough with my rambling on to the fashions.
Rianna's dress was gorgeous and I know that I personally like Alexis Thorpe on Y&R much more than I like her on Days. Although the powers that be obviously don't agree with me. Her gorgeous dappled pastel cleavage baring dress was by Cavalli and rang up a total price of 1500 hundred dollars, and not a penny too much. Thorpe just seams like someone who may be hard to dress from the obvious problem the costume designers over at DOOL are having. I have to give it to the designers on the set of Y&R they captured not only the character of Rianna, but Alexis herself. The dress was sleek, elegant, sexy, alluring, and everything I think a prom dress should be, if only we all had that sum of money and that body to pull off this gorgeous dress.
Brittany, Brittany, Brittany. What can I say, a sparkling diamond, a glittering star, a pretty pretty princess, I'm at a loss. Woodland is one of the few girls on soaps these days that are well endowed in the chest area, and this dress just puts all that in a pretty little case to show the world. Most times if someone has a chest people automatically put them in the low cut cleavage baring gown, but with it's high cowl neck the dress just makes her look like a superstar. $1800 for this amazing Laurita Shield dress, if you asked me in my modest opinion it's worth so much more than that, but if that?s the price that's the price and thank the lord because it brings it just a slight bit closer to the rest of the world, so yeah maybe none of us can afford it but if that same dress was by Gucci it would be at least 3,000 dollars more than what it was and it would be worth every penny.
Amanda, chaperones what can I say. Most proms chaperones are old and wrinkled but not on Y&R. Denice Duff is in my opinion one of the most gorgeous female soap stars right now, but the dress definitely not one of my favorites. It's pink and flowered tiered skirt to the flowered bodice just didn't do it for me, call me crazy but I just thought it was tacky. I personally have never been a huge Steff Dobkindt fan and I guess this dress just proves to me why I feel that way. The $250 that was paid for it was way too much in my opinion I just think this dress didn't do Duff respect and belongs on a hanger in some low end store in a town like Walla Walla Washington, and I'm not saying anything bad if anyone is from Walla Walla, but I've been there and well it's not the center of high fashion that's for sure.
Mac, the name says it all.. I hear her name and the first thing that comes to my mind is Mac cosmetics, which in my opinion is one of the best cosmetics lines out there that is sold in pharmacies. It's classy and elegant and all the things that I think Kelly Kruger embodies and this dress just makes me see it more and more. Who would think a Denim Two Piece gown could be so classy, but you put it on a gorgeous girl with a gorgeous beaded choker and had a poofy corsage/pin type thing to it and it's amazing. Edwardo Lucero deserves an award for making denim so elegant; never something I thought would happen. I hear denim and I think a pair of jeans and a sweater, cute but definitely nothing comparable to this dress. Mac is my new elegance idol, I think my new goal in life is to wear denim every day and look half as classy as she does.
Danielle see now ladies this is the cleavage baring dress I was expecting to see on Brittany, but they didn't take that route and Ashleigh Olden is a knock out in this stunning Tom Mark dress. Olden just takes it to the next level in this dress, she looks amazing, stunning, beautiful, I'm just at a loss for words and don't know how much further to go with this because I really don't know what to say so I guess as far as Olden goes I'll leave this one alone before I say something I'll regret down the road.
Colleen, wow girl you win the award because you prove my point you don't need a dress that costs a couple thousand dollars to look like a stunner. Princess doesn't even begin to describe Lindsey Fonseca in this Jessica McClintock gown. Fonseca looks like she belongs in a magical tower, under a spell that she must be kissed by her one true love in order to wake up, a princess a superstar. A fashion icon. Gorgeous is the first word that comes to my mind. $300 and she looks better than anyone else did, the dress complements everything about her, from her hair color to her eyes to her skin tone, this is what every girl dreams of when looking for her prom dress something that makes you look like a billion dollars and doesn't cost an arm and a leg to do so.
Well I hate to end here, but since I'm just going by the pictures in the CBS scrap book I guess I must, I hope you've all had as much fun reading this as I've had writing this. Until the next time we meet again, just remember if you look beautiful, classy, elegant, and like a star then wear it maybe some other people won't like what you choose but if you like it and it makes you look like a million bucks go with it because it's for you.
