Memorial Comment:
Helen A. Teufel, 45, of the 500 Block of Gaskin Circle, died Friday morning May 4, 2001, in the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. Born June 10, 1995 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania; she was the daughter of
Wilbur L. "Pete" Folmar and the former Lillian Malloy.She is survived by her husband, George R. Teufel; they were united in marriage on June 9, 1978 in the Church of Saint Luke in Jersey Shore.
She was a 1973 graduate of Jersey Shore High School, and also graduated from Lock Haven State College in 1978 with a degree in early childhood education. She taught elementary education in Fairfax, Virginia and Virginia Beach. She was currently the assistant librarian at Fairfield Elementary School. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, the Garden Club of Fairfield, and attended the Community Methodist Church in Virginia Beach. For many years, she was chairman and a member of several U.S. Navy and NATO support organizations.She is also survived by three sons: George L. Teufel, Benjamin R. Teufel, Sean A. Teufel, all of the home; a sister, Lorraine C. Cervinsky of Williamsport; a brother, Daniel W. Folmar of Jersey Shore;
and a foster brother, Robert Lanning of Avis.Helen was a wife, a sister, a daughter, and a mother to many. She touched so many lives while she was still on earth. She fought cancer for 12 long years. When the doctors told her that she had only a few years left to live, she didn't believe them for one second. Her faith in the Lord and love of her family kept her going. As a mother she raised three fine young men. As a teacher she enriched the lives of so many young children. She was and still is an inspiration to so many people that are still on earth. Her memory gives us all strength, focus, and courage to face our daily lives. Whenever life seems like it is turning its back on us, all we have to do is remember how Helen saw life fading away and decided to grab onto it and make the best of what time she had left. No amount of memorials could ever show the thanks that we all have for her. The only question that remains is why God decided to recall his angel back to heaven so soon. Now there is no more pain. Even though our soul may begin to bleed when we think of the pain that she endured, now there is no more pain. No more suffering.
She is enjoying the greatest gift that the Lord can give: eternal life.Helen lives on in our hearts, in our minds, and in our souls. A truly great woman that was taken too soon. Her work on earth was done. She was the strongest woman I had ever had the privilege of knowing. Her strength gave others strength. Her attitude towards life made life worth living for me. She is still an inspiration. At night she still talks to me,
and when I am having a tough time in my life she is there for me.In a time when there are no heroes, no role models left in the world, she shines above the rest. She was a true hero in every sense of the word. Helen kept a positive attitude even up until the very end,
saying her stay in the hospital in May was just a little hurdle.
She was always running a race against time,
and in my heart she won.We all love you, Helen. You are with us now and forver. We will never forget how you touched our lives in such a special way. No one could ever replace you. For now, rest high upon that mountain, for your work on earth is done. We know you are watching, we know you are smiling, and we love you with all of our hearts. We will see you again, but not yet. Not until we have made our lives as wonderful and fulfilling as yours has been.
