| The 152mm Type 83 Self-propelled howitzer is the first such vehcicle to be purpose-built by the PRC. Its main armament consists of a 152mm howitzer modeled on the soviet D-20 and is capable of firing all ammunition compatible with the Type 66 howitzer. Seconday armament consists of a 12.7mm Type 54 AAMG mounted on the turret roof. This vehicle is in widespread use with the PLA and has been the basis for several variants, including the Type 89 120mm SPG.
