| The Type 70 was a simple mating of the 122mm Type 54 howitzer and the Type 63 APC. The result was successful enough (or cheap enough) to be exported or license produced around the world. Sometimes the rear of the hull appears to be covered by a canvas shell to protect the crew from the elements. Early versions had four road wheels while later a fifth road wheel was added, but this was not a Type 85 chassis.. Sometimes this vehicle is referred to as Type 54-I.
