A MESSAGE FROM...
  OUR WORSHIPFUL MASTER...

Brethren,
At the building of Kimg Solomon's Temple, the untimely death of Hiram, the Widow's son and the chief architect (who carried forward, with perfect unity and harmony amoung all the vast numbers of workmen, throughout the construction of the Temple) would appear to have left a viod in such a massive undertaking.   However, we can conclude that King Solomon, in all his wisdom, always had someone who could step in and assume the responsibilities, should someone become unable to continue tp perform their duties.   We know from historical and Biblical records that it took seven (7) years for the completion of the Temple and thirteen (13) years to finish building other houses located near the Temple.   (I Kings 6:38-7:12)
Now is the time to start preparing for the New Year that will begin in just a few short days.   I am happy to report that the updated By-Laws were passed at the Stated Meeting, our investments are growing, our Charity has extended, so that another Lodge now has a similar fund, like our 'Pappy' Warner Fund, and we are up and running on internet.   (www.Desotolodge.com)   We will have had another Brother raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason by the time many of you get this bulletin.
Let us now concentrate on more improvements in learning the jobs of others.   Who amoung us could step in as Secretary, if we had to?   Who could give the Stair Lecture, if the 'older' Masons were not present?   Who knows about the physical repairs and up-keep of the Lodge, should the normal work crew not be available?   I therefore challenge each of you to commit to "study to show yourselves approved unto man, a workman that needed not to be ashamed..."   Now is the time for each of us to "Ask not what DeSoto Lodge can do for me, but what can I do for DeSoto Lodge?"

                                                                                               Faternally,
                                                                                               Jim Nichols, WM

Tuesday, November 14, 2000, has been set aside as a day in which the Worshipful Master will be presenting some awards to members of DeSoto Lodge as well as other Lodges for work done this year in support of him and of DeSoto.   There will be a dinner served at 7:00 PM in the DIning Room and the awards will follow.   Get your reservations in now.   Food options will be steak or fish and we need to know your choice when you make reservations.   Get your reservation in by calling 327-9063.   Reservations cannot be accepted after 5 PM on Saturday, November 4, 2000.   The caterers must have a total by that time.

At the October stated meeting, the by-law update was approved and has been submitted to the Grand Lodge for approval.   Once they have been returned, we will publish and send to each member an updated version.   Hopefully they will be back in time for mailing with the December Digest.

Is Freemasonry a secret society?   The answer to this question must be an unqualified NO!   A secret society is one which conceals its membership, has secret meeting places, and of which the public has no knowledge either as to its organization or its aims and principles.   Freemasonry, therefore is not a secret society, but is a society with secrets.   These are few, however, and deal with certain esoteric parts of the ritual of its degrees, its obligations and modes of recognition.   The Masonic Lodge in most cities is a prominent landmark - brightly lighted at night, into which men go openly almost every evening in the week.   Men are proud to wear its emblems and in many other ways to indicate that they are Freemasons.   The purposes, ideal and principles of Free-masonry may be earned by anyone who inquires.
