A MESSAGE FROM...
OUR WORSHIPFUL MASTER...

Brethren,
I would like to thank you for the confidence you have shown by electing me as Worshipful Master for the year of 2003.   I am looking forward to seeing each of our members and guest at the various functions.   If there is anything that I or the lodge can do to make this a better year, please forward your suggestions and comments to me.
This year, I would like to work with, not only our members, but also, with the members of the other lodges around town.   We, also, want to work with the other two lodges in the building to make this a year of co-operation and assistance and make this truly a brotherhood for all Masonic members.   I am attempting to co-ordinate our functions with the other lodges, the Scottish Rite, and the Shrine to avoid any conflicts, so our members and guests can attend more of our functions.
This year I would like to make this lodge one of friendship and brotherly love, to see all our brothers work together in peace and harmony.   I believe that if all the members would read and adhere to the long charge in the "Blue Book" we can make this a great year for our lodge and Masonry as a whole.
Our Valentine Dinner will be held on February 15, 2003 at 7:00 P. M. in the lodge dining room.   This is the time DeSoto Lodge honors all of our ladies of masonry.   Without their support, we would not be able to function and have such a wonderful lodge.   Each lady will receive a nice box of candy and we will play bingo for other gifts.   Please call our secretary Elbert Martz or our junior warden Gene Major to make reservations.   We would like to have reservations as soon as possible so we will know how much food to prepare and have enough gifts for the ladies.
Again, I ask each of our members to attend our meetings and dinners and become a participating member.   If it has been a while since you attended your lodge and may be concerned about getting in the door, I assure you that will not be a problem.
I hope each of you had a Great Holiday Season and I look forward to seeing and hearing from you.

                                                                                Faternally,
                                                                                Swayne W. Merrell, WM

Craftsman Club News

Every Tuesday is an important night for DeSoto Lodge.   Beginning at 7:00 P.M. we have the meeting of Craftsman Club.   Your regular attendance is encouraged and greatly appreciated.   Through these meetings we are able to pass our knowledge, as well as help the younger brethren.   This year we are hoping to increase the number of proficiency cardholders in the lodge and this is the best way to reach that goal.   In order to help accomplish this goal, it would be nice to have enough brothers get involved to fill all the chairs to practice the degree work.

Sick and Visitation

Brother Swayne Merrell reported the wife of Brother Aubrey Stoddard, Diane, is in Methodist Hospital with pneumonia.   Brother Stoddard's Grandson Jonathan is still in critical condition.   Our prayers are extended to Brother Stoddard and his family.   Brother Byron Wilkinson and the Sick and Visitation Committee would like you, a family member or a friend to notify them of anyone that is sick, homebound or in the hospital so they can check on them.   You can reach Brother Byron at 386-9914.

February Stated Meeting Dinner

Nancy Merrell will be cooking home made chili for the February stated meeting.   Bring a dish and come join us for fellowship.   If you have an idea for the March stated meeting contact our Junior Warden, Gene Major at 725-7190.

From the Secretary's Desk

I would like to thank all of the brothers who have paid their dues for the Year of 2003 and urge the rest of the brothers to pay their dues and help save the lodge the postage of sending second notices.   We have several brothers that we have not been able to locate.   If you see a brother that you know is a member, please ask them if we have their correct address.   I also want to remind everyone of the Valentine's Dinner on February 15, 2003 at 7:00 P.M.

Winners of Door Prizes

The winner of the $50.00 gift certificate to Home Depot for the January Stated Meeting was Brother Dennis Pope.   The winner of the $50.00 cash prize was Brother Sterling Wood Haverfield.   Brother Haverfield was not present to win.   The $50.00 will carry over to the February Stated Meeting making the cash prize worth $100.00.   The winners of the consolation prizes were Ms. Katherine Perkins and Aubrey Stoddard.   The February Stated Meeting Door Prize will be a $50.00 Visa gift certificate.
