God's Littlest Spirit

"You're a Special Little Spirit,"
the great Master said,
As he gently caressed the curly brown hair
of the Little Spirit's head.

"You need to go to Earth
to spend some time, you know,
A place I send most Spirits
to help them learn to grow."

The Little Spirit, in sadness,
slowly bowed her curly head,
And from her eye a tear did steal
and down her cheek it slid.

"Don't you fret now little one,
I won't let you stay too long,
I'll bring you back to help me here,
you'll hardly know that you've been gone.

You're my choicest Little Spirit,
you're the apple of my eye."
And He wiped the tear and gently kissed
His Little Spirit good-bye.

"I'm back," Little Spirit whispered,
as she climbed onto her Master's knee,
And the Master said, "I told you,
you would not be long away from me."

And then, the Lord, He noticed
still another tear welled in her eye.
"Why are you so sad, Little Spirit,
whatever should make you cry?"

"I'm glad I'm back," Little Spirit said,
"but Master you must surely know,
When your Angel came to get me,
I didn't want to go.

I know you said you needed me
and that I'd be gone the shortest while,
But Lord, why couldn't I have had
a little longer trial?"

The Master let Little Spirit
slip down from off His knee,
Then took the Little Spirits hand and said,
"Come walk with me."

The Little Spirit and her Lord
walked slowly hand in hand,
As He tried his best to explain to her
His great and marvelous plan.

"Now Lord, I don't mean to argue,
I understand that you needed me home.
But I left in such a hurry,
Now everyone is so alone.

I didn't let my parents
know how much I loved them so.
I was much too small to tell them, Lord,
how will they ever know?

They feel that they've been cheated,
and in a way, so do I.
Not getting to share any more than we did,
how can I tell them why?"

I know your heart is heavy
with this message you need to share.
But you need not worry anymore,
I'll watch over your loved ones there.

I'll send them loving comfort
as a strong and helping hand.
That will give them peace and ease their hearts,
so they will understand.

"I'll tell them that you're pure,
as pure as Heaven's Gold,
And that I needed you very much
to keep Heaven from getting cold."

If We Could Have You Back

If we could have you back for just one day,
There would be so many things we would like to say.
If we could just be with you for one whole day,
to have you close and know that you really are okay.

If we had known that you would be gone forever,
If we had known all those ties were going to be severed,
If we had known the pain, the loss, and the ache,
if we had known the difference without you would make.

In the darkness you slipped away from us all,
Now it's just your memories that we have to recall,
They say that parting is such sweet sorrow,
But it's the longing, the wondering, and how to cope with tomorrow.

They say that grieving a child is very worst,
Cause life's plan is that the parents should go first.
Now all we have are memories, the good times that we had,
We spend so much time in tears, and pain and feeling sad.

So if we could have you back for just one day,
You could let us know to cope until that judgement day.
When we'll be together as a family once again,
When we'll all be happy and free from all this pain.

Oh ! It's so hard to live when your child has to die,
Then we spend our lifetime trying to say Goodbye!
I found a penny today
just laying on the ground.
But it's not just a penny,
this little coin I've found.

Found pennies come from heaven,
that's what my Grandpa told me.
Grandpa said, Angels always toss them down.
Oh, how I loved that story.

He said when an Angel misses you,
they toss a penny down..
Sometimes just to cheer you up,
and make a smile out of your frown.

So don't just pass by that penny
when you're feeling blue.
It may be a penny from heaven,
that an Angel's tossed to you.
The Lent Child

I'll lend you for a little time,
A child of mine He said,
For you to love while she lives,
and mourn when she is dead.

It may be six or seven years,
or twenty-two or three.
But will you till I call her back
take care of her for me?

She'll bring her charms to gladden you,
and shall her stay be brief,
You'll have her lovely memories
as solace for your grief.

I cannot promise she will stay,
since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught down there,
I want this child to learn.
I've looked the wide world over
in my search for teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd life lanes,
I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love,
nor think the labour vain,
Nor hate me when I come to call
to take her back again?
I fancied that I heard them say,
Dear Lord, Thy will be done.
For all the joy thy child shall bring,
the risk of grief we'll run.

We'll shelter her with tenderness,
we'll love her while we may,
and for the happiness we've known,
will ever grateful stay.
But shall the angels call for her much sooner than we planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief comes and try to understand
