| Welcome to information about the ACET conference to be held in SYDNEY, Australia 2002. |

The
15th Biennial National/International Conference and
Exhibition of the Australian
Council for Education through Technology (ACET) Conference
Theme: The technological knowledge base continues
to expand with technology educators increasingly required to deliver a
broad range of contemporary technological experiences across both the
primary and secondary school curriculum.
Science and Technology, Design and Technology, and expanding
programs in VET are but a few examples.
Unfortunately as part of everyday language, particularly the
language of politicians and the mass media, the term technology
is more often than not used to describe issues associated with I.T.
(Information Technology) and not much else. Indeed NSW students will now be required to have their I.T.
skills measured. All this has significant implications for the restricted perception of
technology education in the wider community.
ACET 2002 aims to explore the variety and significance that a
comprehensive technology curriculum can offer to the knowledge, skills
and competency levels of all young people in a modern society. In particular the conference
aims to develop an inclusive rationale for technology education in the
school curriculum that could be used to convince politicians, industry
leaders and the wider community that a study of the material world, and
the artifacts produced to support society is as important to the
development of young people as a knowledge of information technology. |

Call for
papers
The success of ACET 2002 will rely on contributions from all technology educators: primary and secondary classroom teachers, lecturers, researchers and technologists. You are invited to prepare and
present a paper and/or workshop that supports the conference theme. Presentations/workshops are especially welcome from, but not
restricted to the following areas:
Authors who wish to have their papers subjected to academic review and included in the conference proceedings should note that ACET 2002 will adhere to the Australian Department of Education, Training and Youth Affairs guidelines for academic publications. All papers will be subjected to a double blind review. A special note for authors with an interest in Technology Teacher Education. Papers may be selected for presentation at the TTE Forum rather than later in the conference.
