Background:

Josephine "Joey" Palmer was born on the 15th day of January 1980 the first of  seven children born to Christopher and Alexandria Palmer.  Josephine was given the female form of her father's middle and christened, "Joey" from day one.  Joey  loved being the older sister, she was over protective, always keeping an eye on her younger siblings. She has a very good relationship with her sisters.

As soon as Joey was old enough to stir things in a bowl, she'd be found in the kitchen with her mother.  Joey loved to cook, and experiment with new ingredients and mixing items to see what she could make. Joey, along with her other siblings, was home schooled.  Joey loved this because it meant she could spend more time in the kitchen.  When asked what she wanted for birthdays and Christmas, the answer would always be the same, cookbooks.  Joey would offer to cook dinner most times, much to her mothers delight.  Joey's father  bought another freezer so there was room to put leftovers.

At age 5, Joey fell into a neighbors pool at a birthday party and almost drowned.  Joey  was rescued by the friends father. She became deathly afraid of water, and never learned how to swim. Joey will wade in water or go into a pool if she can stand in it, otherwise she stays away from it.
Senior year of high school, Joey went to actual school, and begin applying for colleges. Joey, who had decided that she wanted to become a Culinary Chef applied to Le Cordon Bleu Schools of North America and got accepted. She attended the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute in Pittsburgh PA. Joey made friends easily , and loved the experience of doing what she loved for a living. She was teased by friends that give her a trash bag and she could make a meal out of it. After two years of intense training, she graduated top 2% of her class. She began applying for restaurants. Her dream was to move out of Pennsylvania, even though it meant that she would  be moving away from her family.  Joey got a job at Space Needle in Seattle, Washington.
Three years ago, Joey returned to Philadelphia to attend her father's funeral when he died of a heart attack.  Joey  offered to move back home but her mother wouldn't hear of it. She wanted Joey to follow her dreams. And that meant being a chef.  Joey calls her mother nightly to make sure she is alright, and that her two youngest siblings were alright.  Joey's sister Emily stayed with there mother for 6 months.
Joey had arranged a vacation for her and her sister Emily, when Emily's long time boyfriend called her to ask her if she could help him to get Emily to Japan so he could ask her to marry him. Joey was thrilled to help, she liked Jesse.  The three were returning to Seattle when they disappeared.
