Background:

Emily Grace Palmer, was born on a hot, steamy August morning in Philadelphia. The second child of Reverend Christopher and Alexandria Palmer.  Emily joined big sister Joey  in the happy family. Emily soon became Joey's living  dress up doll. Emily and Joey was always close. And when there younger sisters joined the family, Emily  helped Joey in watching them.
Emily liked spending time with her father in the church as he prepared his weekly sermons.  She liked listening to him speak of compassion and helping others.  From the time that she was 3, she was taking in stray pets. There was one time they had 4 cats, and 7 puppies, because Emily couldn't handle seeing suffering.   When her brothers or sisters were hurt, she'd be the first to go get the first aid kit.
Unlike Joey who liked to stay inside, and hated water, Emily was a fish. She loved to swim, and often spent her summers swimming with dolphins.  Emily like her siblings, was home schooled till senior year.  Emily  would much rather be outside then in a crowded room.  She loves the feel of the outside, and the clean air.  Helping others is what makes Emily thrive.  Emily would have been accepted into any college if she had applied with her grades, but Emily didn't want to be stuck in a class room inside a building when she could help others.  Emily graduated high school and  joined Operation Mobilization, a Christian group based around the world, especially in  war torn areas.
Emily's first posting was in Zimbabwe, helping to build shelters for those without.  This is where she met Jesse Harten, who was on the team. The two of them became quick friends, both having the same vision of helping.  But, Jesse's dream was to be in a band, and knew to do that he would have to leave Operation Mobilization.  The two made a promise to each other they would keep in touch and see each other whenever was possible.  Most relationships don't survive this type of  distance, but both Jesse and Emily was determined to make it work.  Three years ago when Emily's father died of a heart attack, Jesse took leave from his band to accompany her to the funeral.  Emily's family liked Jesse, though they weren't thrilled about his profession.
After her father's funeral, both her and Joey offered to stay with her mother but her mother refused. Emily took 6 months off to help her mother. Jesse's band was based out of Wilmington  DE at this time, and they could see each other on a frequent basis.  There relationship built and Emily was saddened when Jesse had to go to Seattle. Emily then rejoined the organization and was assigned to Pakistan.  She spent a year and half there before taking a vacation to Japan.  Jesse was there, and her sister Emily called so they could spend time together.  She was surprised on her first night there, to find Joey late and Jesse waiting at the hotel for her. He asked her to marry her, and Joey was there the next day.  The three were returning to Seattle, then Emily and Jesse were to have taken a flight to Philadelphia.
