Then called Seth Holmes, his parents, both being MI6 agents themselves, left him a huge sum of money when they were killed when he was not even one year old. Seth has no memories of his parents...no photographs, no keepsakes, not even their real names. As MI6 agents themselves, he has never been given access to the information on either them or the circumstances of their death as both were killed on the job. Although he’d inherited a very large amount of money, he would not be able to access it until he completed university, and so it was MI6 that saw to his place in a decent children’s home, and later the most elite boarding school money could buy. It was never quite clear why MI6 would make such a gesture...some thought it an unlikely attack of guilt...but most thought it the more realistic motive of an investment...raising Seth as one of their own, ready and groomed to take in as an MI6 operative, and with a seemingly true reason to be loyal to them.
Whichever it was, they later saw to his place in Eton, where he not only automatically got his place in the ‘old boy’s club’, but he was also marked as one of the elite of society full stop, accent, bank balance and image to match. It would prove invaluable for later on during his work for MI6. They urged him in the direction of a Cambridge university to round off an impeccable and high quality education for their needs. After leaving Cambridge, he was taken in straight away by MI6, Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service, who trained him as an Agent. To the rest of the world, Seth Holmes became Seth Arden, and his day to day cover was that he worked as a Civil Servant for the government.
Seth was devastated at the loss of his daughter, but turned to his work, burying himself into it with a cold determination, and it proved to promote him to be amongst the few elite of MI6 Agents. He is trained to deal with any hostile situation, and specialises in assassination, stealth work, surveillance, infiltration, and hostage and terrorist situations. He is also a more than competent pilot, driver and seaman.
A man of firm conviction and beliefs, Seth is not a person to be dissuaded from a course of action once he’s decided. As well as holding a sharp focus and concentration for any goal that may be in his sights, he also has an edge of humour to him that allows for disarming a tense situation...it’s also a way to make things more interesting when working with those he’s often partnered with. With a capability for holding a somewhat brutal edge, Seth is quick, efficient and scrupulous. He prefers to be quiet and reserved rather than one of ‘those idiots that can’t keep their bloody mouths shut and go about boasting and puffing their chests out to make an ideal target of themselves...’. He can hold a cold calm in even the most chilling or horrific of situations, and yet when he loses his temper he can fly into a fury. He constantly carries a gun with him as licensed to do for his work, and whenever he enters a church he always lights a candle. He is a highly intelligent and quick thinking man, used to being in control. Some have called him a snob on occasion, and whilst that isn’t necessarily fair, he does have a taste for the good things in life.
