| Background: In 1973, Peter and Helen Vardon became parents for the first time, after adopting a two year old girl they named Breanna. Breanna’s biological mother had been French, a young woman who gave her child away because she couldn’t take care of her. Her biological father was unknown, but Peter and Helen always assumed he was French too. Peter and Helen showered their daughter with affection, and Breanna grew up being loved and taken care of. Her childhood was in the parish of St. Brelade, and she spent a lot of time on the beach. Her parents owned a small clothing shop, and she often assisted tourists in picking out clothes. Life changed for her as well, for when she was 15 she was assaulted by two men and raped. The encounter left her pregnant, and instead of taking an abortion she decided to give the child away. After the birth of her son, she refused to see the baby. Instead, it was given away to what she had been told was a good family, and Breanna and her parents moved to Maine, USA, to get away from the memories in Jersey. America was an interesting experience, even if Breanna would miss Jersey more than being troubled by the thoughts of her child. She was an active student who had few but good friends. She got good grades at High School, especially in her chosen languages. She spoke French fluently from when she lived on Jersey, and Spanish was easy for her to learn. And with her good grades, she could do whatever she wanted after graduating from High School. |

| Yet, she didn’t know what she wanted to do with her life. She took Environmental Economics in Boston, getting a bachelor degree, before studying Media and Communication in England. She got a Bachelor there too, yet was left not knowing what to do. She went back to America and started looking for a job. Eventually, she found one, but only one she could imagine doing on a temporary basis. It was a company called Altus Biologics, Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of, among other things, chemicals. She got hired as a PR agent, thereby taking care of press conferences and handing out information. Suddenly, she found herself facing the people she had been a part of once, students who cared about the environment and were terrified that companies such as the one she worked in would ruin it. But the pay was great, and as the years passed Breanna found it harder and harder to imagine doing something else. | |||||||||||||||

| She had a very nice flat in Seattle, the clothes she liked and went out a lot. Even if her social life was pressed by her work and business dinners, and dating was usually out of the question. On top of that, she had known since she was 13 that she had no interest in boys. Instead, her focus was on women, and a lesbian in her line of work never got far. So she kept her sexuality quiet, and never really went out with anyone. Her past experiences with men hadn’t scarred her as much as she had guessed back then, but she kept away from the loud and big men that sometimes showed up in her life. The idea of the son she had given away didn’t bother her, but she knew she would never see him. But she had counted on it and even took a certain amount of freedom from it, as well as her close relationship with her adoptive parents who had moved back to Jersey. And despite being adopted, she never attempted to contact her biological mother, even after receiving a letter from her saying that she wanted contact. Breanna had been attending a press conference in Tokyo and was on her way back home when the plane she was on went missing. |
