The Desert Compadres 4-H Club was founded in the fall of 1999. Originally, it's member list consisted of 10 people of which, 6 people were in the same family. Since then, the club has doubled in size. We are now over 20 members strong and participate in many different projects. After the club's first year in existance, the family who started Desert Compadres had to move away. That's when two new leader's stepped forward and took over. Robin and Gale have done a tremendous job with this club.
Over the past two years our club has enjoyed many different awards. Both last year and this year we have had someone participate in and win Round Robbin. This past year Kimberly won both her horse and lamb showmanship classes and went on the win Round Robbin. Our big winner last year was David who took home the jacket his first year out. This year in the lamb competition we had 3 class winners out of 4 classes, and in the class that we didn't win, we had a 2nd place. One of those winners was David who won Grand Champion lamb. Likewise, the kids in our swine group did verygood as well. We only had 2 people in our swine group but they both placed 2nd in their market class and were in the top 5 in each of their chowmanship classes.Our club also won 3rd place in the barn duty competition at the fair. |
