Laura strung the tinsel in her fingers along the tree branch. She stared at the silver and white tree and sighed. Usually she had her Christmas decorating done by now, but things had gotten out of control with the business and her relationship with Nathan to even think about Christmas.

“You okay hon?” Nathan asked, walking up behind his fiancée, putting the plate of cookies he had down.

“This season just came up so quickly,” Laura said, leaning back against him. “I wish I had more time to savor it.”

Nathan kissed her cheek softly. “This season will be perfect, love,” he said softly.

“I hope so,” Laura said. “I let everyone know about the New Year´s party too.”

“Everyone´s looking forward to it, though Buck´s gotta work that night, but Drew is excited about going,” Nathan said. “She´s gonna come with Trina and Ezra.”

Laura nodded. She turned and wrapped her arms around Nathan´s neck. “I love you,” she said softly.

Nathan grinned and kissed her. “I love you too,” he said.

Christmas Day dawned bright and beautiful. Laura stretched and looked at Nathan´s sleeping form. She leaned her chin on his chest, watching him sleep. “Starin´ ain´t polite, you know that,” he murmured, cracking one chocolate eye to gaze at her.

Laura smiled. “I like watching you,” she said softly. “You looked happy.”

Nathan wrapped his arms around her. “I am happy,” he said.

“Come on Laura! Nathan! Mom and dad are waiting!” Laura´s brother, Nick yelled through the door.

The pair rose and headed down to the family room where the entire Fitzpatrick family was sitting, Laura´s niece and nephew playing with a few of their toys already. “Merry Christmas, sweetie,” Katherine said to her daughter, kissing her cheek, then Nathan´s.

The family began to open the gifts they were given. Laura kissed Nathan gently when she opened the silver and diamond locket he had given her. Engraved on the backside of the small heart was “Love you, Eeyore.” Laura couldn´t think of any other Christmas where she was happier.
