The next couple of days were a blur of shopping, dining, and hanging out with Kevin and David. Drew knew they needed to head towards Four Corners soon. She still had a hard time getting over watching Trina buy a car with a wire transfer. She'd never seen anyone buy a car without signing a loan payment. Obviously, her friend was wealthy. But Trina never did anything to act rich. If Drew had not noticed that Trina never looked at price tags or watched her buy the car, she might never have truly been aware of the fact. Trina didn't look down her nose at people who had less than she. In fact, Trina had paid for the hotel without even asking Drew to split the cost. But Trina also appreciated her for what she knew. Drew got the feeling that, to Trina, that contribution was just as important, maybe even more.

She reflected on some of the friendships she'd had in college. Everything was about who had what and status. For some reason, it was different with Trina. It was different even than with Maude, her own mother.

Drew grinned, wondering what Maude would think of her new friend. Thinking about her mother pained her.

"What's wrong, Drew?" Trina asked, looking over to her.

"Nothing. You ready to head out tomorrow?"

"Aye. How long will it take to get there?"

"Not long, really. Why don't we stay in tonight and watch movies? TBS is having a 'The Girls of Summer' night. And they are showing 'Thelma and Louise.' I love that movie."

"Thelma and Louise?"

"You've never seen it either? Gees girl, where have you been?" Drew said with a smile. "Don't they have movies in Scotland?"

"Aye. But my family and I usually didn't watch them. We went to the theater often. My dad didn't care much for film and said that while it brought drama and theater to the masses, the messages in the movies weren't as humanistic as at the theater."

Drew frowned a minute. "What's that mean?"

Trina smiled. "I have no idea." She giggled. "I think my dad was just a theater snob. But he was a good-hearted man. And to be fair, he made sure that all the kids in the nearby schools got to see at least one play a year at the West End. Dad believed that theater was for everyone, not just the rich. Plays in London cost a lot of money to go see. Which is why people go to the movies. Eight pounds for movie, popcorn, and a drink is a lot more affordable than fifty to a hundred pounds for a play."

Drew nodded. "So, you've seen only a couple of movies then. Wait till you get to LA. I have a big video collection and you'll have to watch them all. Starting with 'Pretty Woman'. But, we need popcorn, rum and coke. And pizza, but we'll order that. They are showing 'Thelma and Louise' last. This first one isn't too bad, but it ain't much. The next movie is 'Boys on the Side' with Drew Barrymore."

By the time the girls returned from the junk food expedition and finished packing, the pizza had arrived and the second movie was about to start.

Trina found herself drawn to the free spirit in Drew. She finished off her third rum and coke and picked up another slice of pizza and giggled as Drew dug into the Doritos bag.

"What?"

Trina just smiled and took a bite of the pizza.

"What was so funny?" Drew asked again.

"I don't know. Just struck me that if someone had told me last week I'd be having this much fun, I would have laughed at them." Trina looked to Drew, her expression sobering. "I have not had so much in ages."

"Me neither," Drew said. "Hey, pass the Oreos."

Trina handed Drew the bag and ate her pizza. "Hey, he's cute! Who's he?" Trina pointed to the screen at JD.

Drew looked to her. "Brad Pitt? You've never seen Brad Pitt before. Wow. Yeah, he's cute."

Trina loved both movies, especially Thelma and Louise. Watching those two take care of themselves, needing no man to protect them, dealing out justice as deserved, and just reveling in their friendship was something that Trina found incredibly appealing.

The next afternoon, Trina and Drew watched as the porter loaded up Trina's mustang. Drew was practically bouncing with excitement at driving it. Trina couldn't wait until she could either. She had to admit it was a beautiful car, bright and shiny. And it matched her hair.

Drew got in behind the steering wheel as Trina got in the passenger side.

"We have one stop to make before we leave town, then we'll be on our way. Ezra is going to be so shocked to see me." Drew frowned slightly. "I just hope he doesn't kill me."

"I'm sure he won't," Trina said, fastening her seat belt. Drew nodded.

"You ready?" Drew asked.

Trina grinned. "Hit it."

Drew nodded and started the car. She drove to a small grocery store and pulled into the parking lot. "Road trips require munchies. Any requests?"

"Diet drinks and those Doritos. I really liked the Doritos."

"All righty!" Drew went into the grocery store and Trina opened up her purse and got out her pink scarf, wrapping it around her hair and draping it over her shoulder. She put on her sunglasses and watched for Drew.

Drew emerged a few minutes later with a big grocery bag. Drew set the bag on the hood and dug around, finally pulling out an instant camera. "Thelma and Louise did it, and I wanted one of us."

Trina smiled and got out of the car. Drew giggled and bounced on her toes before standing in front of Trina and raising the camera. "Say Cheese!"

"Cheese," Trina smiled. Drew snapped two pictures and nodded.

"This is gonna be such a rockin ride!"

Trina grinned and grabbed the bag, then she sat in the car and started looking through it.

"I picked up a map, too. Just in case," Drew said.

Trina put the map in the glove compartment and then pulled out a bag. "Pork rinds? What are those?"

"You said you liked fried pork, so I thought you might like those. Can you pass me the gummy bears?"

Trina nodded and pulled those out. "Want a drink?" Trina got two Diet Cokes out of the bag, twisting the cap of one before handing the gummy bears and drink to Drew. Trina opened the bag and tried one of the pork rinds. She grinned. "These are good."

"Glad you like them."

Drew pulled out of the parking lot and within moments, they were cruising down 86 heading towards Four Corners.

The sunlight shone on the open road. No one was on the road with them. All that could be seen for miles was sun, road, and cacti. No cars in sight.

Drew reached over and turned on the radio, cranking it up as loud as it would go. "I hope that isn't too loud for you," Drew shouted over the music.

Trina winced but shrugged. "What is it?"

"Aerosmith. It's their new song 'Jaded.'"

"I think I like them."

"They've been around a while. I have all their CDs. When we get to LA, I'll let you listen to them." Drew turned the music down and started to sing along. She smiled. "They are awesome. Ezra took me to see them in concert for my thirteenth birthday. We had third row seats too. I know he had to pull some stings to get those seats. I like Hard Rock, not really into Heavy Metal though." Drew frowned a moment. "He's really gonna be mad at me now.

"I'm sure it won't be that bad."

"You don't know Ezra."

"He looks like a nice man." Trina offered Drew the open bag of pork rinds. "Want one?"

Drew grinned and took one. "I love junk food." Drew looked around. "You know. No one is out on the road, we have a sports car. Top's down. . . "

Trina looked over at Drew.

Drew smiled. "I feel the need. The need for speed!" She pushed down on the accelerator and the car was suddenly doing 85 miles per hour. "Woo hoo!"

Trina gripped the seat and looked over at Drew in shock.

"Relax. This is fun." The car picked up even more speed.

Trina shrieked.

State Patrolman Raphael Ramierez rode his Harley down the road. He was on duty but never had much excitement. He almost gave himself whiplash when he saw the red convertible speed by. He turned around and put on his siren.

"Drew stop!" Trina cried out.

Drew looked back. "I can't. I can out run him." The car started moving faster.

Trina looked at Drew like she'd gone insane. "Drew, you can't be serious. You have to pull over." Trina was on the verge of tears and trying to contain her panic.

"You don't understand. I'm already in way too much trouble. Trina, I can't get caught. I just can't."

Trina nodded and held on for dear life.

Ramierez picked up his radio. "This is Officer Ramierez calling any available units. I have a 10-80."

"Ramierez, this is Larabee. What's your 20?"

"I'm traveling west on Highway 86, about twenty miles north of Four Corners in hot pursuit of a cherry red 2001 mustang convertible. Been chasing them for about 5 miles. No sign of pulling over. Gonna need a road block on this one."

"10-4. On our way."

"Acknowledged."

Larabee quickly mobilized his forces, contacting all of his officers. They were soon headed to the rest stop north of town to set up the blockade.

"Oh god oh god oh god," Drew was muttering.

Trina gripped the seat and looked over to Drew. "Can't we stop now? Please?"

"No, I can't. I just can't." Drew insisted.

Trina nodded and held on. After a moment, she asked, "Why can't we pull over?"

"Because they'll arrest us. I can't go to jail, Trina."

"Jail? They'll deport me!" Trina tried to quelch the building panic. She'd just arrived, and she couldn't go back home.

"Then we can't stop. We just have to get to my brother's and we'll be fine." Drew continued to drive as Trina looked nervously back to the motorcycle in pursuit. "Trina, get the map. Maybe there is a turn off somewhere and we can lose him."

Trina nodded and opened the glove compartment, taking out the map. She unfolded it and looked over to Drew. "Where are we?"

"On Highway 86, just north of the border," Drew answered.

Trina held the map, looking for the road they were on. She had shifted her hold on the paper for just a moment to narrow her search in on an area when the wind caught the paper and tore it out of her hands. It fluttered away from the car. Trina made a grab for it before looking at Drew. "I'm sorry."

Just then, they both noticed a crowd of cars coming into view in the distance.

"Oh my god, they set up a roadblock," Drew whispered. Finally, she slowed down and stopped the car.

Trina watched as the officers got out of their vehicles and looked downright threatening.

Buck grinned and nodded to JD and Ezra. "Looks like we got a couple ladies out for a joy ride."

Ezra grinned. "Indeed Buck. I believe you are right. You take the blonde and I'll take the red-head."

"Hey! Which one do I get?" JD protested.

"Split the red-head with Ezra."

"Why don't you share your blonde?" Ezra returned.

"I'll take them both and you can have the car," JD quipped.

"You'll get the car, Mr. Dunne." Ezra grinned.

"Ladies, you're both under arrest. Step out of the vehicle with your hands above your head." Ramierez continued to read them their Miranda Rights.

Drew opened the door and got out, raising her hands. Trina didn't move. She stared at the dashboard.

"I meant both of you." Ramierez glared at her.

"Trina!" Drew said, quickly, snapping her friend out of whatever she was thinking. Trina looked at Drew.

"Out of the car now," Ramierez repeated.

Trina nodded and got out of the car.

"Come around to this side."

Trina walked around the car and stood next to Drew.

"Would you look at the legs on the blonde?" Buck said appreciatively.

"She looks familiar," Ezra said softly. Then the woman spoke up so that they could all hear her.

"You sure ride that bike real well, officer. Where did you learn to ride like that?"

"Aw hell. Drew!" Ezra took off running towards the red car.

Buck and JD looked at each other. "Drew?"

"That ain't his sister is it?" JD asked.

Buck grinned. "Come on kid. This is gonna be fun." The two followed Ezra.

Jackson and Sanchez stayed with the vehicles while Larabee and Tanner walked over to assist.

Drew was still flirting with Officer Ramierez. Trina was staring at the ground.

"I need to see some identification," Ramierez said, ignoring her attempts to talk her way out of the arrest.

"Drew Elizabeth Standish, what the hell were you thinking?!" Ezra said without preamble.

"You know her?"

"Hell yes I know her. She's my sister."

Drew paled. "Hey, Ezra," she said meekly.

"Is that all you have to say for yourself after this little stunt?" He took a breath.

Drew looked over to him and saw how angry he was. She'd never seen him that mad. Not even when she'd been kicked out of school for setting the chemistry lab on fire.

"I'm sorry?" She added, hoping it would help.

"Sorry? You're sorry?" Ezra started pacing.

Buck walked up to Drew. "So, you're the infamous Drew, eh?" He smiled at her. "Ezra never said you were a knock-out."

"Not now, Mr. Wilmington," Ezra said with a growl.

Larabee looked over. "Search the vehicle."

Ramierez raised an eyebrow and started filling out the ticket, figuring that with Ezra ranting, the blonde wasn't going anywhere.

"My sister is not a drug user. She may do some stupid things, but using drugs is not one of them."

"Thank you, Ezra."

Vin walked over to the driver's side and reached in, grabbing the keys. He then opened the trunk of the car and stepped back. There were shopping bags everywhere and the trunk was packed to capacity.

"It's gonna be a while. Maybe we better conduct the search at the station." Vin stood up and walked over. "Hey! They got Doritos." He reached into the car and got the bag before walking back to Chris.

Trina was watching the whole scene unfold, but she still was only hearing the words "You're under arrest." She sank down to the ground and wrapped her arms around her knees, burying her face and trying not to cry.

JD looked over at her. He squatted down beside her. "Hey, it's not so bad. You weren't driving, so the most you'll get is accessory."

Trina looked over to him. "Please don't send me back. I can't go back."

Her accent was so pronounced that JD almost couldn't understand her.

"Back where?"

"Scotland. I can't go back. I'm sorry. Please don't send me back."

JD looked up. "We should continue this at the station. It's damn hot out here and the sun is bearing down pretty good. We got an air conditioner there."

"I'm not going to the station," Drew declared. "I'm going to Los Angeles."

Larabee turned to her. "Perhaps you didn't understand the term 'under arrest'? You're going to the station. Ezra, get your sister."

JD looked over to Trina. "Come on," he said, offering her his hand.

Trina nodded and quietly took it.

"I can walk on my own," Drew said. She looked over at Larabee. "You sure you wouldn't rather go somewhere else with me instead?"

Buck opened his mouth to answer then quieted when Chris shot him a glare. "What?" Buck said, walking towards his car whistling under his breath at Drew.

Ezra glared at her. "Quiet, Drew. Just be quiet." He took her arm and led her towards his car. Then he stopped and looked at her. "Why the hell aren't you in class?"

Drew looked down. "I kinda flunked out."

Ezra didn't say anything more. He opened the back door of his car and indicated that she should get in. Drew looked at him. She was shocked. She expected to ride up front with him. Every time she'd ridden with him, it had been up front. The back seat was for criminals. She stared at him.

"Get in." His voice left no room for argument, so Drew got in.

JD led Trina to his car and put her in the back. She didn't say another word on the way. She looked over to Drew and watched her with Ezra, but she was having a hard time focusing on anything.

She heard the young officer trying to make small talk with her on the way, but she could hardly understand what he was saying. And she just felt so warm. Trina didn't think she had ever felt this hot in her entire life.

"You getting enough air back there?" he asked her and she nodded.

"We got some aloe at the station. When Larabee's done, I'll make sure you get some. You're gonna need it."

Trina nodded again and lay down on the back seat of the car.

"We're here," JD said, looking in the back. He got out of the car and opened the door for her. For some reason, he felt bad for the girl. She was terrified. Ordinarily, JD didn't feel badly for the people who got brought in, but he did feel bad for the girl. And he didn't even know her name. She'd basically been in shock the whole time.

She got out of the car, and looked to the pavement. JD took her arm and led her into the stationhouse.

Ramierez waited with the car until the tow truck arrived, then he rode behind it to the station.

Ezra pulled up and parked the car just as JD was offering Trina his arm. He was momentarily distracted, wondering where Drew had hooked up with this girl.

"You gonna let me out or are you gonna make me sit back here and cook all day, Ezra?" Drew asked.

He got out of the car and opened the door for Drew, taking her arm before she could run off. He led her inside and put her in the chair across from his desk. "I suggest you stay right there, Drew." He walked over to the filing cabinet and got out some papers. Drew's friend was sitting across from JD.

He looked over at Drew and saw her fidgeting. He walked back over to his desk and took a seat. Ezra looked at her. "What did you think you were doing?"

"I wasn't hurting anyone. There weren't any cars on the road," Drew replied.

"Ah. You weren't thinking. This is just typical."

"I want someone else to do this. You're just being mean."

Ezra raised an eyebrow and looked over to JD. "Mr. Dunne. A moment please."

"Sure Ez. What's up?"

"My sister claims I am 'being mean' to her. Would you mind processing her while I take care of her friend?"

"Sure Ez." JD looked over to Trina who was still being very quiet. Maybe Ezra could get her to talk.

Ezra stood up. "Drew, will that be acceptable? Mr. Dunne will process you. No one has ever accused him of 'being mean.'"

Drew glared at him for a moment before turning a bright smile to JD. She stood up and walked over to Trina.

"It's all right, Trina. Go talk to my brother. He won't bite your head off." Trina just looked to her and nodded. Drew was surprised at the amount of fear Trina had, and remembered what she'd said about being deported. She could not figure out why going back to Scotland would make her so afraid, then Drew remembered the plane and decided it might be that. "I'm sorry, Trina."

"Not your fault," Trina whispered and smiled slightly at Drew. She stood up and walked over to Ezra's desk.

Drew sat down across from JD and made a show of crossing her legs like a lady, stretching them out so that he could see them nicely.

Just then, Buck walked in and grinned. "Take a break, JD. I'll handle this." He walked over to JD's desk and turned Drew's chair so that it faced his desk.

Drew smiled to him. "Hey, tall, dark, and studly."

Buck grinned. JD rolled his eyes. "I guess I'll go process the car." He looked on. It was just like Ezra had said. Ezra had the red-head. Buck had the blonde. And he was stuck with the car.
