What May Be

Part 10

by Ray-chan

Quatre hugged Heero’s still form tightly to his chest.

"How…How could I do this?! I-I KILLED him!" he choked. "I’m a murderer! He was the only person I ever truly loved! How could I do this?! WHY did I do this?! I’m not worthy of life. I should be the one lying here dead instead of-"

Wufei slapped him, cutting his babbling short.

"Get a hold of yourself!" Wufei bent down, grasping Heero’s wrist firmly. He sighed and gave Quatre a slight smile. "He’s not dead. Just unconscious."

Quatre let out a sigh of relief.

"But what do we do with him?"

All eyes turned to Trowa, and the banged pilot stepped toward the three on the ground. He winced and would have collapsed if not for the couch to grasp onto.

"Trowa, you’re hurt." Quatre’s gaze fell over each of his friends. Wounds, both visible and those hidden by clothing met he sighed in resignation. "…All of you are hurt."

Wufei shrugged.

"We’ll worry about that later…Right now we need some rope. As much as I hate to do it, we have to tie Heero up just in case he wakes before we get to Sally’s.

* * * * * *

Trowa quickly bandaged his ankle before calling ahead to Sally’s and informing her of the situation. Wufei did his best to help Quatre tie up Heero, but his left arm hung down from his side completely useless. Duo had passed out not long ago from blood loss and now he lay on the carpet nearby with a makeshift bandage wrapped around his neck and chest.

Trowa returned to the living room, limping.

"Sally says she can be in her office by the time we get there. Let’s go now."

Quatre sighed and bent down to pick up Heero’s limp form. The other two managed to drag Duo up and out the door followed by Quatre and his burden.

They somehow made it to the car, Quatre taking his place behind the steering wheel since he was the only one fit to drive. After dumping Heero and Duo into the back seat, Quatre turned about to face the other two.

"You should check what’s broken now. We won’t have much time once we get to Sally’s." He faced around and started the car.

About ten minutes into the ride, Duo began to stir. Pushing himself up slightly, his hand rose again to grasp his throat. He stared at the others.

"What happened?"

Trowa sighed.

"We’re going to Sally’s. I think Heero was replanted with another chip and she’s the only one I trust enough to take it out." His gaze locked with Duo’s. "Wufei and I checked you over while you were unconscious…"

Duo’s gaze dropped.

"And?"

"Multiple lacerations in your neck. A few ligaments torn. You need stitches in your chest and abdomen. Neck too."

Duo began to lift his shirt to get a better look at the damage when Wufei placed a gentle hand over his, stopping him.

"You may not want to look. It isn’t pretty. You’d probably pass out again."

Duo paled and nodded.

"Wha…What about you guys?"

Trowa shrugged.

"For me a couple broken ribs. I’m not really sure how many. Sprained ankle and a contusion on the right shoulder. Wufei’s wrist is broken, maybe shattered. His arm is dislocated, too."

The braided boy sweatdropped.

"What about Heero then?"

"Well, we really don’t know. Obvious injuries are the bullet wound and the cut in his back. Sally will have to remove the bullet and extra glass shards when we get-"

"We’re here." Quatre’s voice rang out solemnly in the car. "You guys hang out here for a second."

Sally was waiting for them with a roll away hospital bed. Quatre got out to meet her.

"Hi, Sally."

"Quatre! You look TERRIBLE!" she exclaimed, noticing the small boy’s bloodshot eyes and tired exterior.

"Actually, I’m the best off," he sighed. "The others need some medical help, too."

"Quatre! Sally!" Duo’s voice rang out from inside the car. "Heero’s waking up!"

The blonde and the doctor both ran to the open car door only to see Heero Yuy struggling with the rope restraints and giving his most powerful ‘Death Glare’ to anyone who tried to touch him. His rageful screams could be heard through the gag in his mouth. Sally paled.

"I…I didn’t think you were serious, Trowa. He really is turning violent." She turned to the others. "Well, I brought out a wheel-away stretcher so we can take him in. There…There are restraints, too. I guess we’ll be needing them." She said, eyeing the Japanese boy as he thrashed about on the backseat.

One of the ropes holding Heero’s legs suddenly snapped and he gave a quick roundhouse kick to Wufei who was frantically trying to restrain him.

"Let’s get him on the cot NOW!"

Grabbing Heero roughly, Trowa and Duo barely managed missing another kick thrown at them as they dragged him out of the car and held him down on the waiting cot while Sally restrained him. She wiped her brow thoughtfully.

"Let’s get him inside."

They wheeled the bed to the waiting elevator and up to the fifteenth floor to Sally’s office. Walking into the small back room equipped for examinations, they pushed the cot into the center. Heero’s eyes widened upon seeing the many tools laid out all about him.

"I can take it from here." Sally gave a weak smile to the other four. "I have to check you guys out, too though. If you wait outside I should be done in-"

"Aaaaahhhyaaaa!!!!" Duo’s shrill scream echoed through the little room. Heero shrugged off the severed restraint and quickly reached for another scalpel. Trowa leapt to intercept him and grabbed Heero’s arm, twisting until he dropped the knife with a howl.

Duo just stood there in shock. It was up to Wufei to finally reach over and pull the scalpel from deep within Duo’s arm where Heero had managed to lodge it somehow.

"Give Heero something! A sedative!…ANYTHING!!!" Sally nodded and quickly grabbed a syringe from a nearby cabinet while the other boys replaced the restraint on Heero’s free arm. Pricking the Japanese boy, she emptied the contents into Heero’s shoulder. His mouth opened in shock before his eyes rolled back into his head and Heero was asleep. The others sighed in relief.

"I-I think I can handle him now." Sally sweatdropped. "I’ll take the chip out. You all can wait in my office if you want to."

"No." Trowa gestured to the others. "Duo, Wufei and I have some work to do." They looked at him questioningly. "Quatre will stay here to help if any problems occur."

Sally paused before nodding slowly.

"Okay. Come back once you’re done though. I need to see to your wounds, too."

The boys nodded and gave one last look at the sleeping Wing pilot before exiting the room. Duo turned to Trowa, hand still clasped over his bleeding arm.

"Um, Trowa? What are we doing?"

Trowa smiled grimly.

"Something we should have done long ago…"

* * * * * *

The mechanical man sat stiffly in his seat amidst the many rows of test equipment. Metallic gaze playing about the room, he rose, iron joints creaking with the added strain.

He slowly made his way through the winding rows of chemicals and such pausing at a small corner in the back. He pushed at the wall, revealing it’s hidden door and stepped carefully into the room.

A tiny cot pushed against the wall. Neatly pressed sheets. A small dresser the man knew was empty now. The surrealness hit him like a tom of bricks.

Everything is just as he left it…

*BOOM*

The explosion rocked the small structure. The man clutched frantically far the dresser, barely managing to stop his fall.

Violent quakes subsided, but a thunderous blaze was building in the outer area of the lab. The man gaped at the walls of fire trapping him inside the little room, smoke pouring in rapidly. Choking, he collapsed on the pristine sheets of the small bed.

Turning, he caught sight of the soft teddy bear still neatly placed on the pillows. He reached out and pulled the bear to his chest, artificial eyes allowing no tears.

"Heero…I-I’m so sorry…"

-And the room erupted into a fiery cavern of heat, enveloping the man with it.

Outside, three pilots watched solemnly.

"Mission accomplished."

Heero’s eyes fluttered open and Quatre sighed in relief. He smiled sweetly down at Heero from where he stood over the bed in Sally’s office.

"Heero? Are you okay?"

The brown-haired pilot attempted to sit up, but winced as the pain in his head grew stronger.

"I’ve been better."

Light laughter escaped Quatre and filled the room with its sweet melody. Heero managed a small smile.

"Is it all over, Quatre? C-Can we go home now?"

The blonde boy smiled.

"First you rest. Then we can go. Later."

Heero sighed.

"It’ll be lonely here without you."

Quatre grinned and lowered himself to sit beside Heero on the bed.

"Who said I’m leaving you?" he captured Heero’s lips in a searing kiss.

"Mmmm…"Heero pulled back from Quatre’s lips to gaze into his eyes. He gave the blonde a quick peck on the nose.

"I’m glad."

And he grabbed Quatre’s hips, pulling him down on top of Heero’s own slightly rumpled form. An evil grin split Quatre’s face as he ran his hands seductively over the boy below him.

"Ne, Heero? What are you WEARING under that hospital gown?"

Heero grinned back, wriggling in anticipation.

"Absolutely nothing."

"Mmmm….Gotta make up for lost time then, ne?

"Hai." Heero smiled, stealing another kiss.
