This image is a composite of a 15 minute and a 5 minute exposure taken February 27th, 2000 50 miles east of El Paso, Texas at the Williams Ranch (also the dark sky site of the El Paso Astronomy Club). The image was shot on unhypered Fuji 800 negative film at the prime focus of a 10" Newtonian telescope using a Canon XT camera body. The exposure was hand guided through a 102mm achromatic refractor mounted piggyback on the main scope. The guiding eyepiece is a 12.5mm University Optics Orthoscopic with an illuminated double crosshair reticle. This is my first serious attempt at prime focus astrophotography.
