The Great Comet
Hale-Bopp
This once in a lifetime spectacle was photographed in May of 1996 30 miles West of El Paso, TX . It is the result of a group effort between Cory Stone (El Paso Astronomy Club & Assistant Director EPISD Planetarium), Tom Bird (Lead Forecaster & Fire Weather Forecaster National Weather Service El Paso), Mike Aguirre (space music, weather, & coffee lover) and myself. It is a composite of two exposures of approx. 15 minutes each on Fuji SHG 400 negative film. It was shot using a Canon XT body with a 135mm f/2.8 Canon lens mounted piggyback on a Celestron C8 telescope. What a blast we had guys !! and thank you.
