| Jan. 23, 2002 I had but one hope when I heard that a different company was dubbing S and SuperS, and that they wouldn't mangle the Outers names as they had with Makoto and Mamoru. I had heard rumors that they would change Haruka into Erika, Michiru into Michelle, and Setsuna into Susan. It wasn't too bad. Those names would probably be better for the youngest fans to remember and they weren't too far off from the real names. Then, I became spoiled. I picked up the SuperS manga, which really introduced America to the Outers. (It came out before the anime of S and SuperS did) After first seeing Haruka, Michiru, and Setsuna unperverted by the hands of dubbers gave me hope. Hope that maybe the anime wouldn't be as stupid and editted as the first two seasons had been. But, my hope was for naught. S came out, and it was scary. As I said before, Michelle doesn't bother me. Amara is just insane, and makes no sense, but doesn't make my skin crawl, even if it doesn't really fit Haruka. YET TRISTA! Trista is JUST WRONG!!! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!?! It is almost like naming Michiru Bob. Setsuna is the wisest of the senshi, meant to be respected. Trista is the name of that scary white-trash girl I went to school with who got into cat fights on the bus and smoked in the bathroom, while adding another pound of hairy spray to her poufy teased bangs that were cheaply dyed blonde about a month ago. TRISTA IS NOT SETSUNA!!! Trista is NOT the name of the intelligent scientist who is also the Gaurdian of Time. No, no, no, no, NOT Trista! *weep* |
