Chapter Two: Danielle's Choice

    Danielle sat on the edge of a bed in a strange dark room, crying. It had been dark when she and Gohan had arrived in Japan, and she was really tired, but she couldn't sleep.
    WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO ME? She wondered, wiping some of her tears away.
     The door opened a bit, letting in a sliver of light. "I come in?" a gentle female voice said in broken English.
      "Y-yes," Dani sighed, wiping her face, and trying to compose herself.
      A skinny woman in her middle-ages with pale blue hair stepped lightly into the room. "Do you speak Japanese?"
     "Hai," Dani answered in Japanese, "I am a Japanese-studies major."
     The woman nodded. *Note: from this point on all conversations take place in Japanese unless otherwise noted.*
     "My name is Bulma," she sat down next to Dani.
     "I'm Danielle Dean."
     "I'm sorry about Gohan's behavior before, Danielle-san. He's not... used to people," Bulma smiled softly at the younger girl.
     "Why did he bring me here?" Dani fought back fresh tears.
     "We need you. You are the only person on Earth who can save us now." Bulma looked up, away from the American.
     "Why? What can I do?"
     Bulma pulled out a fist-sized diamond, and handed it to Dani. "The Sun-Star Diamond."
     She looked into it. Into the depths of the jewel. "This-this holds so much... power... but how can that be true??" She turned to Bulma confused. "And how did Gohan fly? And make energy blasts with his bare hands???" Tears streamed down her face, "Is this real? It feels real...." she whispered.
     Bulma put her arm around the girl. "It's real... You're not dreaming.... I can't explain it, but you are the only one who can use that diamond..."
     Dani looked up at her, "Why do I need to use it?"
     Bulma got up and motioned for Danielle to do the same. She led Dani to a room with a lot of computers. She pushed a few buttons, and a picture appeared on a giant screen. It looked like storm clouds with a face. Bulma said just one word: "Lysis."
     "What!?!" Dani's eyes got round.
     "That jewel is the only thing with the power to beat him, and only you can use it to it's full potential." Bulma said never looking away from the screen.
     Dani took a step backward.
     Bulma spun around, suddenly, "We need you! You are our only hope!! The strongest beings on this planet have fought that-that thing, and lost!!! Without you, we are dead!" she grabbed Dani's shoulders. "WE NEED YOU !"
     "Wha-what can I do?" Danielle whimpered.
     "Glad you asked," said a voice from the door.
      Bulma snapped out of her panic and let go of Dani. "Gohan?"
      He walked up to the American. "I can train you, if you give me the chance." he almost smiled, v       "But I cannot make you. It is your choice."
      Danielle looked at the floor. WHAT SHOULD I DO? She thought of what Bulma had said. She was the last hope.... The only chance this world had. She sniffed. "I'll do it."
