“I’m glad you Ronins decided to join up with us,” exclaimed the Ancient. He was sitting at the head of a large banquet table in his temple. It was a large hall, full of incased scrolls of the ancient text; and at the back of the room was a old altar pasted with drawings of the times. A fire blazed in the corner with a large black pot above it, heating the room and the food in the kettle.

“Ancient can I please speak with you in private,” said Kayura rising from the table. The Ronins looked wearily at them as they left. Kayura walked to the next room as the Ancient stood in front of her as she look confused and exhausted.

“It seems that the woman behind this, isn’t the first time we’ve had a problem with her. She’s brung Cale nothing but trouble, and I heard the troopers needed someone to look after Mia. I’m sure we can fight without him and if we do need him we can use the telepathic link.

“Are you sure you know what you are doing,” he asked. Kayura was like a daughter to him and her judgment calls were always logical but he could not find the source of this one.

“Yes, I can’t explain it...so many unnecessary thoughts,” she said tilting her head, letting her hair fall in place, to shield her facial expressions from him.

“Okay then you go find Cale, he’s at the pass and I’ll get the others,” he said trying not push her into telling him. She no longer spoke but nodded in agreement and she sped off.

Mia skin began to crawl as she picked up her pace. The adrenaline began pumping through her system as she broke into a run. She sprinted towards the tents. She looked around and saw no one, her mind began racing at a mile a minute. Who was that?, Am I imagining things? She straighten her skirts and calmly walked on.

“How long do you think it will take to uncover this woman and her plans before we can go back to Earth,” asked Sage. Everyone knew he was all about saving the world but then again they wanted normal lives; they never asked to be heroes.

“As soon as we get this situation under hand...I understand you boys but you have to take care of one responsibility in it’s order of importance at a time,” the Ancient declared.

“Well where do we begin?” asked Rowen. He figured the sooner the better; there was so much more for them to do. The Ancient lifted his hands, muttering something under her breath. A small globe appeared, expanding into a large wall, the Ronins fidgeted as they felt a coil of strong hard magic that sprang to life in front of them.

“Here,” he said pointing to a small castle, “She might be living there....we can have someone spy or result to some other ideas.” The Ronins glanced at each other from across the table, reading one another for a sign or idea of hope.

A sharp voice rang through the air, “We received your call Ancient one....” The boys all turned to see Dais, Sekhemet, and Anubis. They made their way to the table and sat down

“Oh..thank you...we were just talking about how best to solve this new problem.

“Yes we only got some of the information, from what you told us. Now does this woman have any allies or anything.

“I ‘m afraid so. Three others with unbelievable power. They call themselves the 4 Demonic Lords. We need to find out as much information as we can about them.” All three Warlords glanced among themselves and then asked, “What about Cale?”

“Kayura has found him more useful to have him keep an eye on Mia...” the Ancient declared as though he challenged anyone to remark on his on his statement.

No one did. He looked at the Warlords who looked more over whelmed and agreeable to the statement than they should of been; leading him to believe they knew more about this Kusinada woman than they displayed. The Ronins looked mildly perturbed but held their peace as he continued. “Well we should get some sleep bright and early we have to get up tomorrow and get started on this predicament,” he said extending his hand showing the hall to the rooms.

Vexed and sore they all rose from the table and proceeded down the hall. Ryo sent everyone a message that rang throughout out their mind, “Something isn’t right about this...”

“Cale?” yelled Kayura a she cupped her hands around her mouth and proceed call for him.

“Here...,” came a faint echoed voice. Kayura looked around; the high mountain’s path crossed several giant boulders that were hard to maneuver around, with a small brook with sweet white water rushed below in a field of flowers. She changed into her sub armor and ran lunching her self off of trees and rocks until she saw a man crouched behind a tree.

“What brings you out here Kayura?” asked Cale. She knew he was on duty and he hated to be bothered in the middle of a job; so he kept his eyes fully averted on the path ahead of him.

“Oh the Ancient told me to bring a message to you...” she said pausing until she drew his attention, “Well we have to go settle some business and we had to leave one Warrior behind; looks like your it. All you have to do is protect Mia Koji and relax, if we need your help we’ll send a telepathic link to you,” she said sitting down on the soft grass next to him.

“May I ask why me?” he professed through clenched teeth. He didn’t want to have to baby-sit a grown woman because they were worried about her well being; it wasn’t fair to her privacy or his little patience.

“I don’t know, I never ask the Ancient why he does what he does I just do what he asks of me...it’s the way he is,” she lied. He understood that the Ancient had always had a just cause, and silently agree to his unruly task.

“I suggest you leave now and get started,” she said as she began to teleported back to the Ancient’s temple. He grumbled and began to pack for a his stay on Earth.

Once again she sat on the hard bench for most of the day, while those of lesser ranking performed. This time it was a little easier to bear; it was obvious from a great many of the performance that few if any of the people had the talent to ad-lib. By the time it was Mia’s turn to perform, she judged that, counting herself and the first place holder, there could only be five real contestant for the three open Historic apprentice slots. The rest would only be suitable as fill in’s unable to compose they’re own works.

She took her place before the critical eyes of the judges and began.

She realized with a surge of panic as she finished the first verse they did not approve of her topics. While she improvised the statements, she mentally reviewed the verse, trying to determine what it was that had set those slight frowns on the judicial faces.

Quickly she improvised a quote on the Gods; and the older and wiser of the history; she’d never gotten her self into such a predicament. She heaved a invisible sigh of relief as the frowns disappeared.

By the last verse, they were actually nodding and smiling. She finished with a flourish worthy of a master, and waited breathlessly.

And they applauded; they dropped they’re dignity and applauded. The performance of the final contestant was an anticlimax.

None of them had left the tent since this last trial began. Instead of a list the final results would be announced. Several of her colleagues had already approached Mia, offering smiling congratulations on her presumed first placed-slot. A hush fell over them all as the chief judge took the platform, a list in his hand.

“First Place-Mia Koji.” Mia bubbled with happiness and unable to hold in a yell any longer. She ran up to the platform to claim her prize and other contestant patted and hugged her as she made her way through the crowd. She immediately left to go to her tent to call the Ronins but a two pair of evil eyes in front of her.

She had only a split second to take in the rage that had descended upon her head. They flung her into the dust outside the tent, half senseless, and her smashed and crumpled items beside her. Her right arm dangled uselessly; it hurt so badly that she was certain that it must be broken; but it hadn’t hurt half as bad as when they’d broke and burned her papers; that had broken her heart. All she wanted to do now was to find the nearby river and throw herself in. With any luck at all, she’d drown.

But she couldn’t even manage to stand.

“Gently, Mia,” someone said, touching her good arm. She looked around but her vision was full of stars and graying out on the edges. Strong hands reached under her shoulder and supported her on both sides. The voice sounded familiar, but she was too dazed to think who it was. “If I had ever though you’d be hurt I would have sided with the Ronins and never let you go.”

She turned her head as they got her standing, trying to see through tears of pain, both heart and body, with eyes that had sparks dancing in them before. The man supporting her on her left didn’t recognize, but the one on her right-

“C-Cale?” she faltered. He smiled at her. She couldn’t help herself; she wept like a little child, hopelessly. The info--a gift of her grandfather, the items--picked out by her parents...all gone forever. “They burned them, they beat me and broke my arm-”

For a moment she thought they’re were tears in his eyes, and yet they almost seemed to laughing as well. “If I ever doubted you at your talents you just dispelled those thoughts. First comes your things, then come your pain...I’ll take you home now,” he said calling his armor and transported himself to her home.

The halls of the cave were beautifully crafted granite stone with a sheer layer and the rest was donned in ivory. The halls were empty except for the drapes that lay in between the picture of former Barons and Baroness’. The monarch’s rightful place were decorated to; full of artifacts and patterns of foreign lands.

She walked into the room a little dismissed but in a calm state of mind. She walked directly to the throne and bowed and stood awaiting for acknowledgement.

“Kusinada...how did it go,” asked a tall full figured man. His dark green cloak matched the fury in his eyes as he stood greeting his guests. He stood attentively, with his chest beaming with pride and the look of authorization painted on his face, added to the black armor he wore, made him look that of a leader; enough to intimidate anyone.

“Not well seem that old wretch out smarted us again...Do you think the legend is true?” she asked again.

“If it is I’ve got Yamato working on that right now,” he said smirkingly as he saw the surprised look on her face. She smiled and shook her head; I should of known he’d cover our butt.

“Go back to your army, I want you to take the Fourth realm...it seems Earth will be the hardest so we must take it last,” he said as he started to pace across the floor.

“Agreed, send word when the temple is of use again, she said before raising her hand and dissipating in the air.

She rode her steed onto the grounds and dismounted from her horse. Stable girls quickly took her horse as other servants in the courtyard bowed graciously. She turned to see a older woman struggling to bow but only fell to her knees releasing her cane.

Kusinada rushed to her aid and help her gather herself to her feet and smiled at her. The woman eyes fell toward the floor in shame. Confused Kusinada spoke out, “You must not bow to me, you are my people. I will help you that is why I gave you all sanctuary.”

Many whispered and the woman looked up at her with curious eyes. The women and children chanted her name aloud. She waved her hands for them to be silence as her face showed her modesty. She called on advisor and left for her chambers.

Her castle maids awaited her return and drew her bath as she was greeted by her guards. She sat in her chambers, staring at space as though in thought. The times were changing so much for her and she didn’t know if she could keep up with Hoderi’s demands. Her comrades were all enveloped into the “new world order” that he convicted in his mind

“Mil- Lady,” came a voice. Kusinada shook her head as she tried to clear her mind. Her eyes followed the little green haired girl; showing her that she had her attention. “We are all set, we will strike tomorrow as you requested.”

“Good Captain...I must leave you to your duties and Kia don’t fail me,” she said rising and just as she did the girl bowed and excused herself from the room.

Kusinada made her way to the bath; a large marble tub, filled with steamy water that seemed to good to be true. She stripped her self and slid into the bath, trying to soak all her troubles away. The maids left her to her thoughts as she closed her eyes and lay back into the tub.

Soon she stood in the a large lush green forest, a pond sat in the middle of the woods. The sun shone through the canapé and glittered on her dress. She nervously looked around; the forest was calm and no sounds were being heard. She nearly jumped out of her skin when she felt a large increase of power. She called out his name repeatedly, “Cale...”

“Kusinada,” came a voice as he encircled her, “My dearest, It’s been a long time,” he said as he went to hug her. She stood still, she wanted to melt into his warmth and let him love her but she held firm; he abandoned me I will not be his puppet anymore. Her aura flared and he leapt back in surprise, as she called on her armor.

Kusinada proudly stood in a silver breast plated armor that bore a crest of horses, her tunic flowed as her she moved her feet to ready a stance with her black boots that had a crest of wings. Her dragon sword lay in her hand and her dark black eyes glittered with hate. How did she get the armor of Zai, before he could think any further she spoke:

“You can not fool me with those false words of promise as you used to. I will make sure men like you never harm anyone like that again. I’m not the child I used to be,” she said, her voice became lower as she started whispering enchantments.

“No Kusinada you don’t want to do this,” Cale cried. He didn’t want to have to resort to using his powers but had no choice because he knew that she could kill him if he didn’t put up his defenses.

Her eyes began to glow a violent gray and her hair flowed into the air as she began casting her spell. Birds and other wildlife began to flee turning into chaos. A large black dome sealed over them and electricity shot throughout out it at a rapid speed as though it were alive. “Morgastu Nomadodaus,” she quoted as the ball engulfed them. Cale was hurled back as she blinked.

The water hit her face, as her hands splashed the water mixing with the sweat on her face. She stood up wearily, her knees shaky and her mind unsteady. Subconsciously she wrapped a robe around her body as she stepped out of the tub and sat on a chair, holding her head in her hands.

She couldn’t believe she did a ‘ippongi shinnyuusha’ on him. But she knew he was to crafty to die that way, she would have to wait to they met in person; she wouldn’t let them kill her off that easy. Her hands slid to her neck, there hung a thin gold necklace that she twisted in her finger tips. A tear crept down her face; she cried softly as she held her own death in her hands.

ves and then asked, “What about Cale?”

“Kayura has found him more useful to have him keep an eye on Mia..
