Chapter 8

The months passed like days to Anubis. He glanced at her, she was too quiet to him on the way to the doctor’s office, only speaking to say how the air conditioning felt, but he knew she was nervous. She chewed on her lip her fingers played with the seat belt across her stomach.

“I’m sure everything will be fine,” he said once, but she only answered with a pained smile. He dropped her at the clinic and parked the car. He entered the building and saw her talking to the nurses at the counter. The woman behind the counter stood and led them both down the hallway.

He waited while she went into one of the changing rooms and returned in one of those paper gowns. She got up on the examining table while the nurse fumbled with a large machine. Anubis realized that this was the equipment for the ultrasound. He flashed a quick reassuring smile and thought how she suddenly seemed to small to carry such a burden.

The nurse rubbed a gel like substance on her stomach as the doctor proceeded to take tests. Anubis couldn’t help but feel his cheeks flush, the room seemed unbearably close. He couldn’t stop looking at her stomach and the amazing growth of all her body.

Mia reached her hand out to Anubis’ as the doctor ran his instrument across her stomach. She grasped his hand, hers was so cold, damp, and shaking a little. On the screen was an image, a head, two arms and legs, the beat of a tiny heart…it was amazing.

“Looks good,” said the doctor who’s… Anubis stared at the image, the tiny body moved and sucked its thumb. A live human being, growing inside his Mia, floating in her dark warm ocean. A miracle.

“Do you want to know the sex?” questioned the doctor. Mia nodded nervously, “A boy and a girl said the doctor. Anubis felt in awe, it was a revelation to him, a humbling experience. The nurses began to put up the equipment as Anubis let out a lung full of air, as if he’d been holding it the whole time. Mia left to change and came back with a peaceful expression on her face.

The ride home was a comfortable silence that brightened both sprits. The sun was getting ready to set as Mia spoke.

“Why don’t we pick up dinner,” said Mia peering out the window at the scenery. Anbuis knew her cravings had been coming out of hand lately and decided to say no. Mia caught his thought and turned to him with a quivering lip and knew he couldn’t resist her now.

“Ohh okay,” he said hating the power she had over him, but he just didn’t want her to use that face anymore, “What do have a taste for?” he asked her.

She pondered for a minute and her stomach started to growl, “I think Bahn Xeo, strawberries, and lots of cheese.” In relief he nodded, it wasn’t outrageous as the last requests he had been getting from her.

They pulled into parking lot and Anbuis shut the car off. He took her hand and led her into the restaurant. Soon they carried both of the bags out into the car. Mia began to put her seatbelt on as a shinny light reflected off the front mirror, and was flashed to her eyes momentarily blinding her.

Anubis turned to see that the light was coming from behind them. A large burly man, with brown hair was sitting in the backseat. “Morgus, warn us next time will you’ said Anbuis warningly.

“Oh sorry, I just came to pick something up from you,” he stated in a gruff voice.

“And what would that be,” asked Anubis getting a tad annoyed that he had dropped in so unexpectedly, but tried to remain tranquil.

“My wife and child what else,” he said quickly. He watched as they seemed to react at a leisurely pace, he loved to see that kind of shock on a person.

“While you were on your vacation, I used an illusion to portray myself as you and I must say she does taste good,” he said licking his lips to taunt him. Mia looked at Anbuis who had a horror look on his face so strong that she wanted to fall away.

“She thought I was you I must say, illusions do work very well. Now I will take her and my children,” said Morgus motioning his hands to Anubis.

“No this is not possible,” cried Anubis. Anbuis stopped and lurched for him. Morgus caught his arm and bent it slightly looking into his eyes. Morgus let go and teleported outside of the car. Anbuis jumped out and lunched an all out attack on Morgus. “Mia run get out of here,” cried Anubis.

Mia got out of the car and ran. Tears began to pour down her face, she couldn’t believe she had been tricked by the dynasty and was going to bear their hellions. She ran and she wasn’t going to stop.

Anubis caught Morgus’ arm and continued to dodge the blows. Treacherous thoughts began to seep into Anubis’ mind. Anubis could almost feel the soft texture oh Mia’s skin, the beautiful heaviness of her breasts, her sweet taste. He had her all the time, to see her honeyed smile, talk to her about anything, touch her and listen to her silvery laugh, now they took her gist, innocence, and truth away from him. His face-hardened at the thought that Morgus had put his hands on her at all.

Anubis clasped his hands with Morgus in a test of brutal strength. Even with the thoughts flooded through his mind Anbuis’ anger turned into a ferocious force that Morgus couldn’t with stand and he was forced on to the ground.

Anubis let go of Morgus, raised his staff and a flash of light shone into his eyes. Morgus saw his chance and reached for his sword and slid it straight through Anubis stomach. Anubis fell to the floor clutching his stomach and in hushed tones let forth a cry to his love.

Mia stopped caught her breath and began to run again. She halted and looked up only to see a large temple in front of her. Everything in nature seemed to quiet: the wind, the light, herself, all moved in the world without sound or swift motion.

The trees above the sheltered began to bend to Mia’s direction. She moved past the garden and into the temple. The hallway was of a swirling white, the torches gave off a pinkish white light that reflected off the walls that seemed to bring peace to her soul.

“Who’s there,” came a voice from the far hall. Mia stumbled down the hall and entered with an exasperated look upon her face. “What’s wrong my child,” he asked.

Mia look up with her tear streaked face and saw a small monk. His brown robe hid his height and main features from her but his onyx like eyes were filled with sincerity.

“Father I have been deceived. A man masqueraded as my husband and now I may be having his baby,” she said as tears began to stream down her face again. The monk listened with intensity and curiosity, whatever could possess someone to go that far he did not know. This was the last problem he’d expect to see, but it was his duty to help those in need.

Twilight fell as Mia cried herself to sleep. She awoke on a soft cot next to a blazing fire; the warmth made her spirits lighten up but not enough to take away her cloud of depression that seemed to hover over her.

“Here take this,” he said handing her a cup of some sort. She couldn’t believe she didn’t hear him coming, she knew it was serious when she couldn’t even be able to concentrate on her surroundings. If the world crashed and burned right then and there and she wouldn’t have cared, it mostly likely would have solved her problem. She then thought how Anubis was out there fighting and she hadn’t even gone to get help…how careless.

He looked at her and her pretty face seemed to even down his sprits also. “Mia, I think you need to reevaluate the problem. He had spent the last hour trying to calculate out the problem and hoped to be of some assistance.

“Huh,” she said confused. She was half hearing him and just didn’t feel if she could try to find a way out of this one. She wanted to give up right then; she felt that the Dynasty would never leave her alone. A duty as a good citizen was worth her losing her mind or life over, but then she thought that if she had not found the Ronins then she wouldn’t have those things in the beginning. It was a lose, lose situation.

“Well I think something is wrong with this story,” he agreed. “It seems you are nine months pregnant correct, and your husband was gone for one month. Well this imposter came to you a month later…so if you were having his children you’d only be eight months pregnant. Naturally you can give birth at anytime but you should check that out.”

Mia’s face brightened at this ray of hope that shone through her cloud of depression…It truly helped to talk to someone she could trust. Mia jumped up in happiness and thanked the priest before dashing out of the temple. Help was all that ran through her mind as she tried to run, but seemed to jog better with two children.

The monk beamed happily as the mists surrounded the garden and temple and faded back into the darkness. “Good by mother.”

“Ohh I’m hungry,” cried Yuli. His stomach grumbled and he slumped down into his chair. “They should have been back now, about an hour and a half.”

“Yeah but Anubis wouldn’t let anything happen to her. But I’m not sure, lately she has been a little weird,” said Cye.

“It’s just the pregnancy, you try and have twins and not feel weird. But your right even with Anubis they should have been back. I say we call Kayura she keeps tabs on everyone,” stated Sage

Moment’s later Kayura appeared after many desperate telepathic pleas from the boys. The boys actually looked nervous they didn’t need to lose anyone and especially now. After she heard the situation she calmly called upon her powers.

“Give me sight beyond sight…let me see Anbuis and his bride.” Visions flashed in her head as her knees weakly crumbled beneath her. She let out a cry that gradually began to get louder and it shook the boys until there skin crawled. The boys didn’t know what to do; they weren’t sure if this was what was supposed to happen or if she was just pulling their legs.

Ryo couldn’t take it anymore and tried to awaken her but her eyes began to roll back in her head as he took her in his arms. “Guys,” cried Ryo, “help me.” They grabbed her feet and laid her on the couch. She then began violently convulsing; blood began seeping out of the corners of her pale rose lips. She looked like a beautiful death, pale, frozen in time, her blue hair looked as though it absorbed her color, but her lips suggested other wise.

Sage initiated that they use their own thoughts to counter act with theirs. The others hesitated but before they could say anything Ryo, Sage, and Kento were absorbed in their own thoughts, and unwillingly joined in. They all joined in hands and concentrated on her, after a few minutes in what seemed like an eternity, she sat up. Gathering her thoughts her attention turned to her hands…they were so cold. She touched her mouth in shock to realize that she was bleeding. Then she understood…

“Guys,” said Kayura she was amazed at how hard they had concentrated to save her life. She never really had anybody who cared for her so much, outside of the Warlords circle…it sprung a new feeling inside her that made her feel special. “Something is wrong, Anubis is hurt and I can’t find Mia,” started Kayura but that was all the guys needed; they ordered White Blaze to stay and watch Yuli and they headed out the door before Kayura could finish…she took off after them.

“There,” she shouted,” yelled Kento, “ In the parking lot of that restaurant.”

“Okay we’re on it” The guys dashed for the lot and found Mia’s jeep in a spot. They all began to fear the worst. They hadn’t felt this urgency or lose of hope sense the their last dynasty adventure and then they almost each other.

` “Over here” cried Rowen. Anbuis’ body was slumped on to the ground and a cold puddle of blood lay under him. Sage immediately ran to him and started the healing process. The others scouted the area for clues or any sign of Mia and turned up empty handed. They were happy that he hung in there, for Mia’s sake wherever she was.

“Mor…gus…did…this,” said Anubis in a gruff voice. They all sat with a puzzle expression on their faces. Morgus had become their friend after Belarus had been destroyed, they just couldn’t understand what would make him resort to such a thing.

“Well we got to get him, regardless of who he is…maybe he can prove us wrong,” said Rowen. The others nodded but weren’t planning to be so lenient on him if they got a hold of him.

“Hey get in touch with the Warlords and have them look for Morgus, Why we go in search for Mia,” suggested Cye.

“You won’t need to do any of that…” came a voice from behind them.
