Katie’s story (destiny)

by Raleena

Prologue: the abandoned beast.

My name is Nathan, I’ve lived near the city of Tangora for most of my life, ever since I can remember, before the war and my Naming of Lord. It was a good life, you worked hard for everything you earned. Yes, the little food and water you received were hard earned. It was honest work too. You’d wake up the morning and set out for the hard work before the sun was too high in the sky and the heat of the day was upon you. We were kind to the beasts that lived around there and kept them away without having them shed a single drop of blood, except for droces that is.

Although with all my heart I loved the gentle and calm country life, I yearned for more. When the days were too warm to do very much work, I would pretend I was a mighty droce slayer and one of the best warriors of the world. The old ones used to tell us things about the world outside of Tangora and I was just itching to see it. One fate filled day, my dreams of adventure began to happen...

It was the brightest sunniest morning imaginable and also, it wasn’t very warm at all. The best working day my Father could have ever hoped for. I was only young so I didn’t see the promise we could do that day. It was in my eleventh year, and awake with the rooster crow skipping merrily down the path to feed the hens and collect eggs when I heard it. It was a sad and mournful cry coming from behind a bush. It was a cry from someone who had obviously just lost someone very dear to them. I remember it like yesterday. I dropped the egg basket and ran to the bush. I peered cautiously over the top of it and saw one of the most dreaded creatures imagineable.

It was a droce.

Droces were the cruelest and most dangerous of all creatures in the worl of Karnu. They were absolutly heartless when it came to having a droce colony slaying whole cities full of klithe. They had giant fangs and horns sticking out of the top of they’re heads, they had gigantic claws that could kill you with one swipe. The horns on their heads were designed to drive into the hearts of their prey. After their second evolution, their adult form, they were worst of all. Man eating beasts they were, tyrants with a thirst for power. Fighting whenever possible and feeding on their own kind.

This droce was but a child, not even at it’s first evolution but the beast terrified me nontheless and I was so obsorbed in my fear of what I saw to notice it sneaking up on me. I did finally notice when I was staring into it’s charcoal eyes. I could smell it’s foul breath and see it’s shiny silver fangs. With fearful sweat dripping down my face and a terrified look, I ran on two feet, over to the barn where I slumped down nervously. I had my back pressed against the big red barn door as the terrorist creature came closer and closer. I was too frozen in fear to even think of running on all fours, the quickest way for a klithe like me, to escape. I squeased my eyes shut praying for the best as I smelled the stench of it’s breath. Just as I imagined the creature’s bone crushing jaws clenching down on me, I felt a warm, wet, soft thing drag across my face.

I opened my eyes to see the young droce, the scary and nasty droce...licking my teary-eyed face. No longer was I crying in fear but I giggled and then giggled some more. It’s tickling wet floppy tongue was just too much. Who would have ever thought of an awful droce being so kind to a klithe? I can’t answer my question, all i know is that that was the beginning of my friendship with Kiran, now my most trusted advisor.

Hey everyone it’s Raleena here with yet another original story. I am sooo bad at this. Anyway, I wasn’t actually going to send this one in because I was writing for my cousin but I kinda liked it and tough I would. Thanks a lot!
