It’s official:  Microsoft Overhauls Longhorn Plan

This article is about releasing the next version of Windows out on time.  Microsoft planes to release it in 2006.  However, to get it out on time, they will have to delay some planned features.  Longhorn was supposed to include three major new pillars:

• a new file system (WinFS)
• a new graphics and presentation engine (Avalon)
• a Web services and communication architecture (Indigo)

WinFS was pushed back because the team couldn’t take the additional features and make a 2006 schedule.  Microsoft will have to provide customers, developers and investors with a more accurate schedule.
