through the local draw, £71,000, which together with a loan from the Bank of Ireland, completed the funding package. Construction began in 1999, and was completed in December 1999. The story of this development is one of determination and hope. The people of Derrynoose believed that it could happen and
facilities served the club for the next 12 years.
In 1994, the Club management committee began to consider the further development
of new facilities; a new clubhouse and changing rooms were considered
essential. A Development Committee was set up to develop and manage the
project. The Development Committee started with little other than enthusiasm,
optimism and a determination to continue the tradition of building for
the future, which had been prevalent over the previous forty years.
Obstacles a plenty existed; there was no funding, no plans, and the knowledge that a mountain of work lay ahead. In 1996 and 1997, the local community responded magnificently and with generosity, raising in the space of one year
supported their faith with their funds, providing those in the development committee the motivation to start and complete the work.
The new center houses changing rooms, (four), a games area, a lounge with a fire, a kitchen, and a community hall which organizes classes, which vary from aerobics to craft classes, from dancing to aromatherapy - a resource to be proud of for an expanding community. The dedication and blessing was carried out by Canon Mc Grane, uncle of County Armagh star, Paul Mc Grane, and the official opening was performed by John O’Reilly, Ulster GAA President, his first official duty within his home county. Also in attendance was County Chairman John Moley, Hurling Board chairman, Jimmy Carlisle and Derrynoose chairman John Lennon. To mark the occasion the Co.Armagh footballers played host to Fermanagh in a challenge match.
