| Following arrival at Leonardo de Vinci airport (known as Fiumicino) I took the express train to Termini station - the main train station of Rome. As I arrived in Temini around 11:00 AM I decided to leave all the luggage in the luggage keeping of the station - that is until I saw the line of tourists waiting there. The line must be at least an hour long (and my visit to Rome was not in season). Instead I went straight to my Hotel, which was very nice and agreed to give me the room three hours before the check in time. Hotel Indformation: Link 1, Link2. |

| The hotel was right next to the fabulous and always crowded ***Trevi fountain. It is said that if you through a coin into the fountain you will return to Rome. This fountain was completed in 1762, and in the center there is a great statue of Neptune, with two smaller Neptunes or Tritons on the side - one symbolizing the calm sea (by holding a calm horse) and the other the rough sea (by holding an unruly horse). The fountain is named after a young virgin named Trivia who shoed the thirsty Roman soldiers a fountain (which was later connected to an aqueduct bringing the water to this place. The relief on the upper right shows her and the soldiers. From the Trevi fountain I walked west to the Piazza Colonna (in which stands the Column of Marcus Aurelius - not to be confused with Tarajan's Column - a colomn erected after Marcus Aurelius' death in 180 AD). |
