For about eight years, Paul was a member of the popular comedy trio the Doug Anthony Allstars (DAAS). The group was formed in around 1984, when Paul met up with Tim Ferguson and Richard Fidler. He originally joined the group so he could earn extra money to pay for art canvas, as he was studying at the Canberra School of Art at the time.
During the late-eighties the group got their break when the became regulars on the late-night ABC variety program The Big Gig. Soon after they were offered the chance to do their own show, and in 1991/92 two series of DAAS Kapital screened on the ABC. The Allstars also did numerous live performances and concerts.
In 1994 DAAS announced that they were going their separate ways. They performed a farewell tour in 1994 called "25 years of the Doug Anthony Allstars". Their final concert was in Perth on December 17th, 1994. Live photos from this concert can be found by following the link below.
Even 6 years after their demise, DAAS are still largely popular, and are still finding new fans thanks largely to their videos, cds and the websites on the Internet. In my opinion there will never be another comedy group like DAAS, and maybe that's just as well :o)
