CAN YOU TELL THESE ACTORS APART?
DYLAN MCDERMOTT and DERMOT MULRONEY

As if the glut of young, brooding actors didn't make things confusing enough, two of these guys also have confoundingly similar names, neither of which sticks in the brain. Not since the two (or was it three?) "Coreys" have we been so in need of clarification. As a public service, here's how to tell Dylan McDermott and Dermot Mulroney apart.

Striking physical features:
Dylan McDermott: Great hair; disarming smile; brooding eyes
Dermot Mulroney: Damn good hair; disarming smile; angst-riddin eyes

Distinguishing Marks:
Dylan: No scar on lip
Dermot: Scar on Lip

Are there more at home like you?
Dylan: Has no brothers that act.
Dermot: Has brother that acts.

Quote from larger-than-life publicity bio:
Dylan: "Director Joanne Woodward gave me freedom: she showed me how to be a person first, and then an actor."
Dermot: "In my first seven roles, I kissed the girl in every one. I knew it was time to branch out and try something different."

First major picture:
Dylan: Hamburger Hill
Dermot: Young Guns

Resent projects:
Dylan: Hardware, Steel Magnolias, The Blue Iguana, Twister
Dermot: Lontime Companion, Staying Together, Survival Quest, Sunset

Future Plans:
Dylan: "I'd like to do more Brechtian theater. I'd also like to maintain my soul through all this and not get corrupted."
Dermot: "I'd like to continue to play characters that are different from each other, and more importantly, different from me!"

Do the critics care?
Dylan: "Unfortunately, McDermott is too young and too bland to carry a picture designed for a young Robert Mitchum." --Variety on The Blue Iguana
Dermot: "The acting [of the entire] cast is pedestrian" --Variety on Survival Quest
