Mayor Rudy Guliani at a prayer service at Yankee Stadium September 23, 2001
New Yorkers were ready to move on with life. And life in New York in the fall means the Yankees in the post season. The first game back at Yankee stadium is one I will never forget. I was in the stands that night, with all the other fans looking for baseball to take some of the pain away. The many songs for our country, all the flags, and having members of the NYPD and NYFD on hand just seemed right. And the moment of silence was the single most quiet moment in New York I have ever heard.
Tensions were high that night, security was tight, and the NYPD helicopters flying over head during the game never let you completely forget, but for 9 innings, the world seemed right again.
