:: Wario Ware Inc.: Mega Micro Game$ for GBA Review

Oooooooooooookkkkaaaayyyyyy. I’m confused. Did I just… jump over a high speed potato? W-…w-was that a …. What? Did I just get a cybernetic monkey to throw a banana at a police car?!

This game is decidedly bizarre… and it’s proud of it! Wario Ware consists of a hefty slew of 5 second games. You’re given 5 seconds to figure out what to do and to do it, and you have to be ready for anything. Seriously. ANYTHING. Y’hear me boy?! ANYTHING. Would you be ready to stop a hammer just over a nail? Probably.. BUT WHAT ABOUT DRESSING WARIO?! Yeah. That’s what I thought. It’s the kind of weird, innovative game that makes you smile and say, “What the #%&@?!” (That’s a good thing).

The sound is nifty-keen. The music is catchy, and even contains some hypnotizing songs with Japanese lyrics. Yeah, lyrics. On a Game Boy game. There’s a bit of a problem with sound quality, but you can still understand what they’re saying. …if you know how to speak Japanese. Also, the actual sound effects are right on and add to the experience.

The graphics range from the most crude and simple to the most artistic and unbelievable. Each little microgame has it’s own specific style, which is pretty impressive considering the sheer volume of microgames in here.

Wario Ware has an addictive beauty which is indescribable. You really have to check the game out for yourself. It’s worth the cash, except for one little thing. It’s short. I beat through the main game in one sitting. In the end, however, it’s really about the replay value; considering that games are randomly selected each time, there’s always some mixing going on. There was also this frightening inner drive to beat my high score born within me as I played through Wario Ware. Also, there are tons of unlockables, including real live huge MINIgames. Yes. Very impressive.

Final Rating: 5 out of 5. Points deducted for being short. Points added for being totally original.
