Ten months without an update...I suppose this means I can't be irritated with other slow webmasters anymore.
Contrary to the slow year this website has had, Longing for Orpheus has come a long way. The premier album, Skye, is currently being manufactured, and should be available mid-February at CD Baby.
There's also a new Longing for Orpheus page at Myspace.
Finally, I'm just finishing a remix of Conjure One's Face the Music. I'll post the link as soon as its ready.

I've figured out what Longing for Orpheus is really about - passion. Up to this point, I had generally thought that the main subject and inspiration for these songs was optimism - kind of a "there's always hope" message. I had been mulling over how to present that concept succintly, when I realized that there's an underlying message, and one that I have personally endorsed for quite a while. I feel that people who have a passion for life and what they do with it tend toward that same optimism that I thought was at the center of the music I've been writing. I feel that those people are the most fortunate in the world, and come to be so by their own attitude and actions. They are more succesful, happier, and have fewer regrets than those who lack passion. My music is meant to celebrate that passion, and to inspire the listener to it. I suppose I could have used the term "drive" instead of "passion," but I don't think it has the same emotional resonance, and all (good) music is about emotion, in my opinion. So, for better or worse, this is now the core of Longing for Orpheus:
Live with passion.

I've been in airports for about 12 hours now. Without access to the internet, I'm forced to play around on my own hard drive; in doing so, I noticed that I haven't put any updates up for a while (though I honestly don't think anyone reads any of them, but since I talk to myself in person, I figure its okay to talk to myself in blog-format as well.
The lack of updates isn't because I haven't been working on Longing for Orpheus music - on the contrary, I feel that an album is really beginning to take shape. Releasing an album has always been a major goal of mine, and I think that's now achievable. I intend to finish the writing by mid-2005, and do production through the rest of the year, so I'll hopefully have a finished product in early 2006. That's the plan, anyway. It will be at least 11 tracks, and at least 45 minutes long. I know I'll have more material than that, but I'm quite willing to sacrificing a track or two of my work if it will make the album more internally consistent. Enough rambling for now, self - find something else to do.

I've been working on a new website lately - its called "After Enigma," and involves me expounding my humble-opinion on artists/groups similar to Enigma. Click on the link in the navigation bar if you'd like to hear me rant and try to sound knowledgable!

Here's a slightly simpler and more modern site. No more frames! Meanwhile, there's a new song posted on Music.Download.com - its the first movement of Sonata for Night (and the only movement so far).
I recieved an exciting e-mail yesterday (exciting to me, at any rate) - my song Distance came in at 3rd place on mp3unsigned! I can now put "Award winning composer of electronic music" on my resume. ;)

New song on music.download.com - it's called "Drift". This one is similar in style to Rise - upbeat, and predominantly synth.

After nearly two months of work, I've basically completed my song for the Loopmasters competition on Mp3Unsigned. I'm not quite done with it, but I've posted it anyway. Its very synthpopy, rather than new age - that's just the way it turned out.
