With life becoming busy, so decreases our ability to keep people informed. This Spring Jen finished year 2 of law school. She's again working the summer at the same firm and enjoying it. Derek keeps busy with work, as well as the yard as the weather became more agreable. A couple of big developments in Meredith's life. In May, she switched from her own daycare provider to a brand new, bona fide preschool. Meredith was very excited to start preschool (see picture below) and make new friends. She's done a remarkable job transitioning and loves every minute of it. It's become a struggle to actually convince her it's time to leave at the end of the day. It is a pretty fun place; they have "water days" and "silly hair days" and music days and art projects, etc. No wonder she doesn't want to come home. Also, Meredith switched to a new bed. After nearly a year in the "big girl bed" (her crib mattress on the floor), Meredith switched to a "real big bed." It's a twin mattress, and it's actually on a bed frame (one that her dad slept in as a child). Meredith was very proud of her new bed, and to her parents' delight, sleeps in just a little bit longer in the morning. After Meredith relents and is brought home from preschool, she loves to play outside in the yard. She digs, likes to look at ants and bees (but not other bugs), and has fun with her swing. Thanks in large part to Grandpa Dave's help, she now has a fort with attached swings that she shows to other visiting kids. Though, before the thing was even completed, Meredith asked when she was going to have a sandbox. Right now there is a box constructed in the yard, but now sand. She's pretty happy to dig in the dirt though. Meredith and I spent several days in Wisconsin with her Grandma Cathy and Grandpa Dave while Jen stayed home, to work and have some fun on her own. Meredith loved being in a cabin, and going in a row boat for the first time. She collected acorns and played on the beach (but didn't go in the water!). Meredith even got to touch the shell of a turtle (through the intermediary of a rock). Life is busy, but we seem to find time to have some fun together now and then. We're trying to enjoy the short Minnesota warm season while we can. The garden is growing, and if the squirrels don't get out of control, we may have some tomatoes by summer's end. -DBR |
