This portrait of the Virgin of Guadalupe, the patroness of Mexico, hangs in the mission's original chapel. The congregation expanded so rapidly that it soon outgrew this small space, which was converted to a school & music room.
The mission is known as the "Mission of Music". Fr. Estevan Tapis, a gifted musician & Father-President of the mission chain, retired here to found a renouned boys choir. Fr. Tapis is buried in the church's sanctuary, just on the other side of the wall from his beloved music room. (DLW, August 1998)
