Dr. Derek Daniel is a theoretical physicist, in the field of atomic & molecular physics, who is:
Best Known for: 1. Exact solution of the Master Equation, a non-linear partial differential equation or Fokker-Planck equation, for a nonlinear oscillator in the field of quantum optics. 2. DISCOVERY of the only known exact solution to Kolmogorov's equation for birth-death processes, originally thought to have been solved over one-half a century ago!
Notable Works: In search of threshold-effects in hydrogen molecular scattering by low-energy electrons from DJ DANIEL'S PhD Thesis in the field of Atomic Physics at ANU Library

Research Areas

Theoretical Atomic Physics: Is the branch of physics that is awesomely connected with the study of matter at the microscopic or atomic scale. My PhD thesis research probed deeply into two specific branches of atomic physics :  (1) Molecular Orbitals & Ab initio Electronic Structure & (2) Quantum Collision Theory & R-Matrix Scattering.

Quantum Optics & Statistical Physics: Aims to embody the dynamical behaviour of many-body systems using statistical methods and quantum mechanics together; specifically, to describe multi-particle systems in quantum mechanics and to determine whether particles are distinguishable or indistinguishable. Both my graduate degree in science with Honours and previous post-doctoral work follow these topics of interest in quantum and statistical physics.
