Cay : Nature Creates Freaks : Q Magazine

London punks fronted by pissy Dutch screecher Anet Mook. The new Hole etc.

As angry and noisy Nirvana's bitter farewell, In Utero, Cay's debut is a ferocious, gnarly punk racket sweetened here and there by a little jangly pop. Anet Mook claims she has none of Courtney Love's records at home in Kentish Town, but on the single Neurons Like Brandy and the title track, Cay could be mistaken for the Hole of 1994's Live Through This. Conversely, the twitchy kook-rock configurations of Senseless and Dragonfly recall the more obtuse noodlings of Fugazi, while Skool flows as gently as one of Billy Corgan's little lullabies. Nice. But mostly nasty.
