What led me to REALLY hate Wal-Mart
So, I was understandably a little mad. A lot mad, really. Luckily enough, Buck-O-Nine didn't swear at all in their lyrics, so I didn't need to take that back. I put my real big fish on a shelf with the reciept and figured I'd get to it after Christmas, when I knew I'd have other stuff (clothes and whatnot) to return.
Come Christmas, the only thing I needed to take back was a camera (purchased from Wal-Mart) that had stopped working after I had put two rolls of film through it. As soon as I could get a ride out there, I tried to return the malfunctioned camera (I had the reciept) and the tape.
I was met, not just with resistance, but with outright hostility! The woman at the returns desk treated me like some punk kid, talking down to me, just being generally rude. Admittedly, I do dress kind of hooligan-like, baggy pants and shirts, I believe I was wearing in a hooded sweatshirt. But I was smiling, clean shaven, well groomed, and most importantly, polite, which is much more than I can say for her.
They wouldn't let me return the camera, because I didn't have the packageing (what the hell?), and they wouldn't take the tape because it had been opened (even more bizarre!). I could handle the camera. But the tape...
I said it was faulty merchandaise, and was not labeled as censored. Their escuse? It didn't have a "Warning, Explicit Lyrics" sticker on it! AAAAAAA!!!!! My arch-nemesis, Tipper Gore, founder of the PMRC strikes again! (subjects for two more rants)
And that was it. If I can possibly avoid it, I will not shop at Wal-Mart. But, I lived in a small town, not much other choice. Wal-Marts have the tendency to run respectable, local business out with their cheaper products, even if they are of lesser quality. And they are of lesser quality. Every single electronic device I have ever purchased from Wal-Mart has failed well before its time.
I have a few more, minor reasons to dislike Wal-Mart, but that covers most of the bases. Whew. Tell me what you think, please.
